Trafi (an Enghouse Company) is building the technology behind smarter, more connected urban mobility. Our scalable MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platform combines two core strengths: proprietary multi-modal routing technology and deep mobility integrations - bringing complex transport networks together in one seamless, user-centric experience. At the heart of this experience is Trafi’s in-house routing engine : the technology responsible for finding, evaluating, and combining different ways of getting from A to B across multiple transport modes. Our technology powers mobility solutions trusted by European cities, including Berlin ( Jelbi ), Brussels (Floya), Nottingham & Derby (Ride ) and Vilnius ( Trafi ). We are looking for a Routing Team Lead to take ownership of the team building and evolving our multi-modal routing engine . This is a hands-on engineering leadership role where you’ll combine people leadership , technical direction, and product ownership . You’ll lead a small, experienced team of three engineers — two Backend Engineers and one QA Engineer — and work closely with the team’s Product Manager to shape what we build and how we build it. T his role is ideal for engineering leads who enjoy deep technical challenges, algorithmic thinking, and performance-critical systems, spanning graph traversal, route optimization, real-time search, distributed data processing, and translating research or industry approaches into production-grade solutions. This is a hybrid role based in our Vilnius office , giving you the flexibility to work from home or from the office based on your preference. Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and support the Routing team , creating an environment where experienced engineers can take ownership, challenge ideas, and continue growing. Set the technical direction for Trafi’s routing capabilities , helping the team make strong architectural and engineering decisions. Stay hands-on with engineering , contributing to technical design, architecture, code reviews, problem solving, and implementation where it creates the most value. Own the routing domain across the full development lifecycle - from discovery and technical design through development, deployment, monitoring . Partner closely with the Product Manager to turn clients and customer needs into a clear technical roadmap and well-defined engineering priorities. Represent the routing domain in discussions with clients , educate them and help to reach objectives related with Routing performance in app. Work closely with other teams: project managers, frontend engineers, designers, other engineering stakeholders to deliver routing capabilities that work seamlessly across the broader MaaS platform. Experience: 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant hands-on experience building backend systems and APIs; strong experience with C# is preferred. Solid foundations in algorithms, data structures, and problem solving, with the ability to reason about complexity, performance, memory usage, and trade-offs between performance, scalability, accuracy, and operational cost. Strong system design skills and experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant, production-ready systems, including making pragmatic decisions around caching, partitioning, consistency, availability, and other architectural trade-offs. Strong understanding of operating software in production, including cloud infrastructure, observability, CI/CD deployment strategies, reliability, and incident response; experience with distributed, real-time, or performance-critical systems is highly valued. Demonstrated technical leadership, with the ability to set technical direction, make and communicate architectural decisions, identify technical risks, and balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability. 2+ years e xperience leading and developing engineers through coaching, feedback, delegation, and clear expectations, while creating an environment where team members can take ownership and grow. Strong communication , prioritisation, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Product and other teams, navigate evolving objectives , and lead the team through complex technical and product decisions.
