About us
The Essential Services Commission is Victoria’s independent economic regulator of essential services supplied by a range of industries. The commission’s functions include:
• making regulatory decisions with respect to prescribed industries (including price determinations, licensing, customer protection and access disputes).
• undertaking reviews and providing advice to Ministers on a range of economic and regulatory matters.
• administering the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
About the role
The Team Leader, Compliance leads a team responsible for delivering compliance and regulatory outcomes within the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
In this role, you will provide leadership, direction and support to a team undertaking compliance monitoring, assessment and regulatory case work. You will help ensure compliance activities are evidence-based, risk-informed and delivered in a timely and consistent way.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders across the division to support effective regulatory practice, manage competing priorities, and contribute to continuous improvement in compliance processes and team performance.
This role will suit an experienced people leader with strong regulatory, compliance or investigations capability, sound judgement, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.
This is a fixed term position until 31 December 2027. The work location for this position is 570 Bourke Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.
Key accountabilities
The role is responsible for:
• leading and supporting a compliance team to deliver regulatory activities in line with program objectives
• managing team workflows, priorities and performance to support timely, high-quality outcomes
• overseeing compliance monitoring, case management and regulatory responses using a risk-based approach
• providing guidance and advice on compliance matters, including emerging risks, issues and appropriate actions
• building productive relationships across the division to support coordinated and consistent regulatory practice
• contributing to continuous improvement in compliance processes, systems, reporting and team capability
