Tech Lead (Typescript/Python/Go) - Fully Remote

Are you an experienced engineering leader with a proven track record of managing technical teams and building scalable, mission-critical platforms?

We are recruiting a Tech Lead for a high-impact organisation building operations-critical software across defence, intelligence, and law enforcement. In this role, you will combine technical domain ownership with direct people management, guiding engineering growth while steering the unification of technical foundations into a single, scalable platform.

⚠️ Important Note: While the role is fully remote, candidates must be located in Malta or willing to relocate permanently.

Key Responsibilities:

• People Leadership & Management: Own direct line management for engineers, including performance reviews, 1-on-1s, career development paths, stretch assignments, and recruitment loops.
• Domain Ownership & Governance: Lead technical feasibility reviews, scope epics and stories with Product, defend engineering health, and maintain realistic team commitments.
• Technical Oversite (~20–30% Hands-On): Stay engaged with code reviews, reading architecture proposals, ensuring high standards in CI pipelines, testing, and service extractions.
• Production Health & Security: Define and enforce SLOs, instrumentation, alerting, and incident response; oversee security practices across on-premises hosted, on-premise, and air-gapped installs.
• Platform Evolution: Drive the technical migration and unification of legacy systems into a target platform with shared semantic layers and robust governance.

What We’re Looking For:

• Leadership Experience: Minimum of 2+ years in a dedicated people leadership/engineering management role, actively managing engineers and team performance.
• Tech Stack Fluency: Strong background in TypeScript, Python, or Go, along with API/contract design (Fastify/Hono), production PostgreSQL, and event-driven architectures (Kafka/Redpanda, Temporal).
• Infrastructure & Ops: Practical fluency with Kubernetes, GitOps (Argo CD, Helm), and observability stacks (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).
• System Migration: Proven track record of successfully delivering live, complex legacy-to-target system migrations.
• Communication: Excellent written communication for Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), RFCs, and remote-async workflows.
