At AECOM, we're recruiting for a Technical Director-MEP to join our growing Buildings&Engineering team in Dublin.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly accomplished Technical Director – MEP to provide technical leadership, strategic direction and design excellence across a diverse portfolio of complex buildings and infrastructure projects.

The role will lead the delivery of integrated MEP engineering solutions for technically demanding environments including healthcare facilities, education campuses, event and entertainment centres, major public buildings, railway stations and transport-oriented developments.

As a Technical Director, you will operate at the intersection of technical excellence, project leadership, client engagement and business development. You will provide authoritative technical direction from strategy and concept through detailed design, construction and commissioning, while ensuring solutions are safe, sustainable, resilient, commercially viable and aligned with client objectives.

You will work collaboratively with architects, structural engineers, transport specialists, planners, digital/BIM teams, sustainability professionals, contractors, operators and clients to deliver high-performing buildings and infrastructure.

Key Accountabilities

The Technical Director-MEP will be accountable for:

  • Technical excellence and design quality.
  • Engineering strategy and technical assurance.
  • Compliance with applicable legislation, standards and client requirements.
  • Delivery of technically complex and multidisciplinary projects.
  • MEP coordination and integration.
  • Engineering risk management.
  • Innovation and sustainable design.
  • Technical development of project teams.
  • Client technical relationships.
  • Contribution to business development and strategic growth.
  • Continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes and capability.

Sector Leadership

Provide specialist MEP leadership across complex building and infrastructure sectors, including:

Healthcare

  • Acute hospitals, specialist healthcare facilities, laboratories and clinical environments.
  • Critical power, resilience, infection control, ventilation, medical gases and specialist clinical services.
  • Healthcare engineering standards, operational resilience and continuity of service.

Education

  • Universities, research facilities, schools and major education campuses.
  • High-density teaching environments, laboratories, research facilities, student accommodation and campus infrastructure.
  • Flexible, sustainable and future-proof engineering solutions.

Event Centres & Large Assembly Buildings

  • Arenas, convention centres, exhibition facilities, theatres and major public venues.
  • High-capacity HVAC, electrical infrastructure, life safety, crowd-related systems and operational resilience.
  • Complex event loading, flexibility, security and venue operational requirements.

Railway Stations & Transport Infrastructure

  • Major railway and multimodal transport stations.
  • Passenger environments, concourses, platforms, retail areas, back-of-house facilities and operational buildings.
  • Integration with rail systems, operational technology, fire/life safety, security and transport infrastructure.
  • Design within highly constrained live environments, including phased construction and maintaining operational continuity.

Here’s what we’re looking for

We are seeking a highly experienced engineering professional with a proven track record of delivering complex projects across core buildings markets

We are looking for a senior engineering professional with a strong track record of delivering complex, multidisciplinary MEP projects and providing technical leadership at a strategic level.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services or a related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • Significant experience in building services/MEP engineering, including leadership of major projects.
  • Demonstrable experience in one or more of the target sectors, with the ability to operate across multiple sectors.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on complex and high-value projects.
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, engineering integration, technical assurance and design management.
  • Experience working with major clients, contractors, developers and public-sector organisations.
  • Strong understanding of relevant building regulations, international standards, codes and industry guidance.
  • Experience of BIM and digital engineering methodologies.
  • Understanding of sustainability, energy efficiency, resilience and whole-life performance.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience supporting bids and business development.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • The ability to operate confidently at board, executive, client and project-team level.
