Raytheon’s Data, Analytics and AI organization is seeking a Technical Lead, AI Application Development to guide the design and delivery of innovative, enterprise-scale software solutions. In this role, you will provide hands-on technical leadership for a team building AI‑enabled applications, including conversational interfaces and chatbot solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLMs). These applications enhance business processes, improve access to information, and drive productivity across the company.

This position focuses on full‑stack application development using modern Angular-based user interfaces, Java backend services, and RESTful APIs that connect enterprise systems with AI/LLM capabilities. While AI experience is a plus, the core emphasis is on strong software engineering fundamentals, architectural excellence, and developing secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.

As a Technical Lead, you will demonstrate deep knowledge of application development principles and best practices while providing hands-on technical guidance, mentorship, and code leadership to other developers. You will work collaboratively within the Digital Business Solutions organization, applying the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) to deliver high-quality, user-focused applications.

Strong communication and partnership skills are essential. This role works closely with business stakeholders, product owners, solution architects, and cross-functional technical teams to understand business needs, translate them into effective technical solutions, and clearly communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

What You Will Do

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of AI-enabled enterprise applications, including LLM-powered conversational interfaces, chatbot, and agentic AI solutions.
  • Design and develop full-stack web applications, with an emphasis on Angular and TypeScript frontend development, Java-based backend services, and RESTful API development.
  • Develop and maintain application interfaces and backend services that integrate with LLM platforms, enterprise data sources, and other internal systems.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML specialists, solution architects, and other development teams to integrate AI capabilities into reliable, secure, and user-friendly applications.
  • Take ownership of complex application development challenges, independently evaluating technical approaches and driving solutions from initial concept through implementation and production support.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, coaching, and code reviews for other software developers while actively contributing to application design and development.
  • Establish and promote software engineering best practices, including sound architectural design, reusable components, automated testing, source control, and continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD).
  • Collaborate with product ownership and development teams to establish technical roadmaps, prioritize application enhancements, and address technical debt and infrastructure requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex application challenges, including performance, integration, reliability, and cybersecurity issues.
  • Communicate and present technical approaches, architectural decisions, and development progress to technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership across application development teams as needed to address significant technical challenges and drive them to resolution.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years' experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing full-stack enterprise web applications using modern software development technologies and frameworks.
  • Experience designing and developing modern, responsive web applications using Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience developing Java-based backend applications and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
  • Demonstrated understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, API integration, and application architecture.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including guiding application design, mentoring developers, and contributing to software development in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience integrating Angular applications with Java/Spring Boot backend services in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience designing intuitive, responsive, and accessible user interfaces for interactive or conversational applications.
  • Experience with Python, .NET, or other backend application development technologies.
