Technical Leader (Fullstack Backend focused)

We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and high-performing backend systems. In this role, you will drive the technical direction of our backend development, mentor a team of developers, and play a key part in shaping our product and technical vision. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of engineers, establishing best practices, coding standards, and a culture of continuous improvement. Collaborate closely with frontend teams, product managers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver scalable technical solutions. Architect, develop, and maintain reliable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern backend frameworks. Design scalable system architectures that support high availability, strong performance, security, and zero-downtime deployments. Drive technical decisions and take ownership of the backend roadmap, balancing speed, scalability, and long-term code quality. Ensure the reliability and maintainability of backend systems through effective testing, monitoring, logging, and incident management practices. Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to increase team efficiency, improve developer experience, and enhance the end-user product. Participate in and lead discussions about new technologies, proactively identifying opportunities to innovate and evolve our technology stack. Act as a bridge between engineering and product, translating business requirements into robust and scalable backend solutions. Skills & Qualifications 6+ years of experience in Backend Development, with at least 4 years in a lead role. Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and backend frameworks such as NestJS or Express.js. Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and distributed systems. Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data modelling, and query optimisation. Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and an understanding of containerisation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code. Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, messaging systems, and asynchronous processing. Experience with technologies such as Apache Kafka is an advantage. Demonstrated experience with AI tools and workflows, you know how to integrate AI into the development process to move faster and work smarter. Experience leading or mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and setting technical direction. Good understanding of frontend concepts to collaborate effectively with frontend developers. Strong knowledge of software security, testing strategies, observability, and performance optimisation.
