The Role
We are seeking a strong and experienced Level 2 Deskside Engineer to join an established IT support team within a large organisation.
This is a hands-on role suited to an engineer who can hit the ground running, take ownership of Level 2 incidents and provide effective technical support with minimal ramp-up time.
The successful candidate will be providing face-to-face and remote support to end users across a Microsoft-focused environment. You will be expected to troubleshoot issues independently, work through incidents to resolution and confidently communicate with users and stakeholders at all levels.
This is not a role for someone who requires significant training or supervision. We are looking for an engineer with solid practical experience who can quickly understand an issue, identify the root cause and take the appropriate steps to resolve it.
The role requires 3 to 4 days onsite in Ballymany, Co. Kildare, with the remaining time worked remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Level 2 deskside and technical support to end users across the organisation.
- Take ownership of incidents escalated from Level 1 and work them through to resolution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Windows, hardware, software, connectivity and desktop-related issues.
- Provide hands-on support across the Microsoft 365 environment, including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and related applications.
- Diagnose and resolve user access, authentication, permissions and account-related issues.
- Provide support for laptops, desktops, printers, peripherals, mobile devices and other workplace technology.
- Support the deployment, configuration, replacement and maintenance of end-user devices.
- Use Active Directory and other relevant tools for user and account administration.
- Accurately log, update and manage incidents and service requests through the IT service management/ticketing system.
- Investigate recurring or more complex technical issues and escalate to the appropriate infrastructure or specialist teams where required.
- Assist with hardware refreshes, software deployments and wider IT projects.
- Provide clear technical guidance to users and explain issues and solutions in a straightforward manner.
- Work effectively with technical teams and business stakeholders to progress incidents and requests.
- Follow established IT support, security and operational procedures.
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience in a Level 2 IT Support, Deskside Support or Deskside Engineering role.
- Demonstrable experience independently troubleshooting and resolving Level 2 incidents.
- Strong practical knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
- Good hands-on experience with Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and Microsoft desktop applications.
- Strong knowledge of desktop hardware, laptops, peripherals and workplace technology.
- Practical experience with Active Directory, user accounts, permissions and authentication.
- Experience working with ITSM/service desk ticketing systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability, with the confidence to investigate issues rather than simply escalate them.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and hit the ground running.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical issues, solutions and previous experience.
- Comfortable dealing directly with users and stakeholders at different levels across the business.
- Professional and confident approach to face-to-face support.
- Ability to manage competing incidents and priorities while maintaining a high level of customer service.
- Relevant Microsoft, CompTIA or other technical certifications would be advantageous.
What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate more than simply having Level 2 support listed on their CV.
We are looking for an engineer who can clearly explain their technical experience, demonstrate how they have diagnosed and resolved real-world incidents, and confidently discuss the technologies and environments they have supported.
Candidates should be comfortable taking ownership of issues, asking the right questions, troubleshooting methodically and communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong communication and the ability to confidently articulate your technical experience will be particularly important for this role.
Working Arrangement
The role will be based in Ballymany, Co. Kildare, with 3 to 4 days onsite each week and the remainder remote.
Candidates must be comfortable working predominantly onsite and able to commute to the location as required.
Full working rights in Ireland are required. Sponsorship is not available.
