Technical Writer II

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Writer II to join our dedicated Technical Manuals Team supporting critical aviation automation initiatives for the United Kingdom National Airspace System Replacement (UK NAS-R) program.

In this role, your sole focus will be executing the updates, revisions, and structural organization of our expansive technical documentation library. You will work hand-in-hand with our Configuration Management (CM) team to ensure that all technical and work instructions maintain strict baseline version control. Using Microsoft Word products, you will turn engineering source data into clean, compliant, and highly structured technical manuals.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Manual Updates: Revise, edit, and format comprehensive technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and system administration guides based on engineering inputs.
• Library Maintenance & Organization: Catalog and organize the centralized digital and physical technical documentation library, ensuring all manuals are easily searchable, accurately tagged, and up to date.
• Configuration Management (CM) Alignment: Work closely with the CM team to enforce document control protocols. Route documents through formal approval workflows, manage check-in/check-out cycles, and track version updates.
• MS Word Formatting Excellence: Utilize intermediate to advanced Microsoft Word features (e.g., custom styles, automated tables of contents, complex cross-referencing, and multi-level numbering) to keep massive manuals clean and uncorrupted.
• Quality Assurance Auditing: Proofread technical and work instructions for formatting consistency, technical clarity, and acronym uniformity before submission.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communications, English, Information Management, Systems Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience: 3 to 4 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer focusing on technical manuals, library control, or document configuration within federal contracting, defense, or aerospace engineering environments.
• Core Software Skills: High proficiency with Microsoft Word and the broader MS Office suite, with a proven history of managing complex, multi-page technical documents.
• Configuration Control Basics: Solid understanding of baseline control principles, version tracking, and basic CM workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting international airspace programs like UK NAS-R (including familiarity with UK NATS or Eurocontrol data guidelines).
• Aviation/System Domain Familiarity: Direct familiarity or prior exposure to the FAA ERAM program, Air Traffic Management (ATM) environments, or large-scale civil/military infrastructure.
• Hands-on experience utilizing configuration management tools or document repositories (e.g., [Jira], Confluence, SharePoint, or specialized CM databases).

Familiarity with formal FAA formatting standards or military specification documentation frameworks.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $52,000.00 - $94,000.00
