Role purpose
The Technology Finance Manager is responsible for the integrity of Technology financial information throughout the month-end cycle, ensuring that transactions are accurately recorded, allocated, accrued, amortised, reconciled and reflected appropriately in financial and management reporting. The role leads the operational execution of Technology financial control activities, including month-end review, accounting validation, balance sheet reconciliations, cost transparency execution, variance analysis and audit readiness.
Working across both the Technology Run Cost & Transparency and Investment Portfolio & Value Governance streams, the role ensures that financial data is complete, accurate and reliable before being used for decision-making, budgeting, forecasting, investment governance and cost transparency reporting. The role acts as the primary review and control layer for the Technology Finance Accountant activities and provides oversight of Technology financial data used within cost transparency and management reporting processes. The role is accountable for the operational execution and validation of cost transparency processes, including monthly cost model execution and reconciliation to source financial data.
Qualifications and experience
- BCom Finance, Accounting, Management Accounting or equivalent.
- 3–5 years relevant experience in:
- management accounting;
- financial control;
- FP&A;
- financial analysis;
- Technology Finance; or
- a similar commercial finance environment.
- Strong month-end close experience.
- Strong balance sheet reconciliation experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capability.
- Experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Strong attention to detail
Advantageous
- CIMA, CA(SA), CGMA or equivalent professional qualification.
- Experience working in a Technology or shared-services environment.
Key accountabilities
Financial Control & Accounting Integrity
- Own the operational review and control of Technology-related accounting activities.
- Ensure transactions are correctly:
- allocated to the appropriate cost centres;
- allocated to the appropriate general ledger accounts;
- accrued where required;
- amortised where required;
- provisioned where appropriate;
- recorded in the correct accounting period.
- Review and approve manual accrual, prepayment and amortisation journals prepared by the Technology Finance Accountant.
- Ensure Technology financial records are complete, accurate, supportable and audit ready.
- Support the integrity of Technology-related financial information used for financial management, cost transparency and investment governance.
Cost Transparency Execution
- Execute the monthly Technology cost transparency cycle.
- Prepare, validate and upload approved source data into the cost transparency platform.
- Execute monthly cost model processing and perform operational validation of outputs.
- Reconcile cost model results to approved source financial information.
- Identify account, cost centre or mapping anomalies that may impact financial reporting or cost transparency outputs and escalate these for review.
- Ensure financial data used within the cost model is complete, accurate and validated prior to release.
- Maintain supporting documentation, validation evidence and exception logs.
- Escalate material data-quality, allocation or reconciliation issues.
Financial Reconciliations & Balance Sheet Integrity
- Review Technology-related balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Ensure accruals, prepayments, amortisation balances, provisions and other relevant balance sheet items are appropriately supported and substantiated.
- Ensure reconciling items are:
- valid;
- supported;
- appropriately aged;
- clearly explained; and
- resolved or formally tracked.
- Maintain audit readiness of all supporting documentation and control evidence.
- Escalate unresolved or unsupported items where appropriate.
Financial Analysis & Insight
Perform meaningful variance analysis across:
- actual versus budget;
- actual versus forecast;
- actual versus prior year;
- month-on-month performance.
- Investigate underlying business and financial drivers of variances.
- Produce clear and insightful commentary that explains the cause of financial movements rather than merely describing numerical differences.
Vendor Spend Analysis
- Perform analysis of Technology vendor expenditure to identify cost trends, anomalies, contract-related impacts, consumption changes and financial risks.
- Investigate significant vendor spend movements and provide clear explanations for variances.
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial decision-making through vendor-related financial analysis.
- Highlight opportunities for cost optimisation, improved financial visibility and better spend governance.
- Support financial review of key Technology vendors and service providers.
Identify:
- volume movements;
- price movements;
- foreign exchange impacts;
- licensing changes;
- project-related impacts;
- timing differences;
- one-off items;
- recurring cost drivers.
- Support higher-quality financial decision-making through evidence-based analysis.
Team Review & Quality Assurance
- Act as the primary review and quality assurance layer for the Technology Finance Accountant outputs.
- Review and approve:
- Accrual and provisions journals;
- prepayment journals;
- amortisation journals;
- reconciliation schedules;
- supporting schedules and evidence.
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to junior team members.
- Ensure outputs meet defined financial control standards prior to use.
- Drive continuous improvement in quality, consistency and control discipline.
Audit Readiness & Control Compliance
- Maintain audit-ready supporting documentation for:
- journals;
- reconciliations;
- cost transparency processing;
- financial validations;
- variance explanations;
- correction and reclassification activities.
- Support internal and external audit requests.
- Ensure supporting evidence is complete, traceable and readily accessible.
- Contribute to a strong financial control environment across Technology Finance.
