Telecom Core Network Expert (PS Core / CS Core)

We are looking for a Senior Telecom Core Network Expert to join a demanding international network audit project through Barona IT Talent.

This is a temporary, project-based assignment supporting a leading telecom consultancy in a mobile core network performance audit. The role is ideal for an experienced consultant, freelancer, or senior telecom professional looking for an interesting short-term engagement with high-impact work.

About the Assignment

You will support a team conducting a comprehensive audit of a mobile operator's core network environment. Your role is to act as a senior subject matter expert, helping identify bottlenecks, analyze root causes, and provide concrete technical recommendations.

The project is expected to start during October and run for approximately two months. The work can be performed primarily remotely, with potential limited travel if required.

We are open to finding:

• One expert with both PS Core and CS Core expertise, or
• Two specialists covering the respective domains separately.

Responsibilities

Depending on your area of expertise, your work may include:

PS Core Network Audit

• Auditing GPRS/EPC core network architecture and performance
• Analyzing SGSN, MME, GGSN, SGW and PGW performance
• Assessing interfaces, capacity, redundancy and security
• Evaluating DNS and IP backbone implementations
• Reviewing legacy and cloud-native core deployments
• Investigating alarms, faults, logs and performance KPIs
• Analyzing user mobility and session management performance

CS Core Network Audit

• Auditing Circuit Switched Core architecture and topology
• Assessing MSC, MGW, HLR, HSS and related core elements
• Reviewing traffic routing principles and signalling performance
• Analyzing capacity, utilization and service quality KPIs
• Evaluating virtualized and legacy core implementations
• Supporting fault analysis and network optimization recommendations

You will work closely with experienced audit professionals while providing expert guidance throughout the analysis and reporting phases.

What We Are Looking For

We expect you to have:

• Extensive experience with mobile core networks (2G/3G/4G/5G environments)
• Strong expertise in either PS Core, CS Core, or both
• Knowledge of both legacy and virtualized/cloud-based core network architectures
• Proven ability to identify network issues, bottlenecks and performance challenges
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities
• Previous experience in telecom consulting, auditing, or operator network assessments
• Ability to work independently and provide actionable recommendations
• Professional-level English communication skills

Experience working directly with mobile operators is considered a strong advantage.
