Job Purpose
We are seeking a Telecom Engineer with a specialty in Telecom Asset Management to support the management and modernization of telecom infrastructure assets within Electricity Transmission. The engineer will contribute to asset inventory development, field validation, data quality, lifecycle planning, risk analysis, reporting, and capital planning activities under the guidance of senior engineers and program leadership.
The role will help maintain accurate telecom infrastructure records in the Telecom Operations Management System (TOMS) and related platforms, support the integration of legacy and new telecom systems into a consistent asset management framework, and contribute to Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) objectives. This work supports grid reliability, operational visibility, informed investment decisions, and the continued modernization of telecom infrastructure.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the development, update, and maintenance of an accurate inventory of telecom assets across substations, field sites, towers, data centers, and other critical telecom locations.
- Participate in and coordinate field audits to validate asset data, document previously unrecorded infrastructure, and integrate findings into the asset database, including microwave, DFAN, OTN, fiber, and IP network assets.
- Maintain asset records and support data integrity, completeness, and consistency within TOMS and related systems, including Cascade, Transmission Explorer, and GE Small World.
- Collaborate with Telecom Engineering, Operations, Project Management, Asset Management, and other stakeholders to ensure telecom assets are accurately captured, maintained, and governed.
- Assist with dashboards, reports, and data analysis that provide visibility into asset condition, lifecycle status, performance, risk, and investment needs.
- Support telecom asset lifecycle planning activities, including end-of-life assessments, replacement standards, depreciation inputs, risk assessments, and capital replacement prioritization.
- Apply established asset management practices, including ISO 55000 and Institute of Asset Management principles, as directed by senior staff and program leadership.
- Assist with predictive analytics, failure trend analysis, replacement prioritization, and long-term capital planning.
- Provide technical input to project teams, engineering groups, and maintenance personnel, and document lessons learned and asset information for knowledge transfer.
- Support the review and update of technical policies, standards, procedures, and governance processes aligned with company and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to annual and strategic reporting on telecom asset lifecycle performance, risk exposure, investment needs, and capital optimization.
- Identify opportunities to improve asset data collection, reporting, workflow efficiency, and system integration.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in telecom infrastructure, utility communications, engineering, asset management, or a closely related field.
- Foundational understanding of asset inventory, lifecycle planning, capital forecasting, risk analysis, or asset data management.
- Working knowledge of telecom infrastructure and the interaction between operational technology and information technology environments.
- Familiarity with one or more telecom technologies such as microwave, fiber optics, DFAN or other private radio systems, optical transport networks, and IP network devices.
- Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate technical and asset-related information accurately.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, project, and business teams.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and escalate issues appropriately.
- Commitment to data quality, continuous improvement, safety, and innovation.
Preferred
- Experience in a utility, energy, telecommunications, or other critical infrastructure environment.
- Exposure to asset management, GIS, work management, or engineering data systems such as TOMS, Cascade, GE Small World, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with data visualization, reporting, predictive analytics, or risk modeling tools.
- Awareness of ISO 55000, Institute of Asset Management principles, or willingness to pursue relevant asset management training or certification.
