Job Description:

Join General Dynamics IT and be a part of a team that solve some of the world's most complex technical challenges. We are seeking a Fiber Lead to join our team in support of the Army TEN-M program.

This is a remote position but you must be within 50 miles of a major airport as the requirement is 25-50% travel.

The Fiber Lead conducts comprehensive site surveys, develops optimized fiber‑ and wireless‑focused network designs, and prepares all required technical documentation to ensure compliance with DoW guidelines and industry standards.

This role directs end‑to‑end deployment activities encompassing fiber construction, wireless network integration (Ericsson, Nokia, and other OEMs), and validation testing of optical transport systems including DWDM and ROADM. The Lead manages subcontractor teams and ensures that all installation, integration, and testing efforts meet project performance, quality, and compliance requirements.

The Fiber Lead:

  • Conducts detailed site surveys to assess environmental conditions, site topology, available fiber assets, power availability, wireless coverage needs, and overall infrastructure readiness. Produces site‑specific designs aligned with PWS requirements and program objectives.
  • Develops site survey, design, installation, and testing plans and processes from the ground up in collaboration with OEM partners, GDIT engineering teams, and government stakeholders.
  • Leads on‑site survey walks to oversee OTDR testing, validate network design details, review A&E drawings, and coordinate all related survey and engineering activities.
  • Performs end‑to‑end fiber design using platforms such as Vetro, ArcGIS, or equivalent fiber engineering tools. Leads integration of fiber backhaul with private 5G wireless nodes (Ericsson, Nokia, etc.) and verifies performance across all transport layers.
  • Develops and delivers the Test Network Modernization Plan (TNMP), ensuring alignment with ATEC requirements, DoD directives, and applicable technical standards.
  • Creates a comprehensive Life‑Cycle Plan (LCP) to ensure all fiber, wireless, and optical transport components remain covered under warranty, maintainable, and fully supportable throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Develops an Acceptance Test Plan for all deployed fiber, optical, and wireless technologies, including DWDM, ROADM, and OEM‑specific wireless integrations.
  • Oversees subcontractor fiber crews for aerial and underground deployments, ensuring proper execution of OTDR testing, fiber characterization, and integration into transport and wireless networks.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: BS degree; additional relevant years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Required Experience: 8+ years of experience in fiber network engineering, deployment, wireless integration, or related telecommunications fields.
  • Required Experience: Deploying cellular networks for Tier‑1 carriers, DoD, or comparable large‑scale telecom customers.
  • Security Clearance Level: Active Secret Clearance desired.
  • Location: Remote.
  • Travel: Position requires 25%–50% travel. Candidate must reside within 50 miles of a major airport.
