Test Automation Engineer
Pascal develops technology used in professional audio products. Our software runs across more than 35 different ODM platforms, so testing is not just about clicking through a web page and checking that a button works. We need to know how the software behaves across different devices, network setups and real hardware.
We are looking for a Test Automation Engineer to join our software team in Herlev.
The main part of the job is automation. You will work mainly with Python, pytest and Playwright, maintaining what we already have and helping us improve it over time. We also have new products coming through, where you will need to decide how testing should be approached and build the automation setup from the ground up.
You will not be expected to sit and run manual test cases all day. However, there will be times when manual and exploratory testing is the quickest or best way to understand a new feature, reproduce a bug or help during a release. We need someone who is comfortable doing that when it is useful, then turning what they learn into better automated coverage where it makes sense.
What you will be doing
A typical week will involve a mixture of maintaining existing automation, adding coverage for new work and helping the team understand failures when something does not behave as expected.
You will:
Work on our existing Python, pytest and Playwright test setup.
Get familiar with the current framework, improve the parts that cause problems and keep it maintainable as the products change.
Build new automation frameworks when a new product, platform or technology needs its own approach.
Write reusable test code, including fixtures, helpers, test data, configuration and reporting.
Add and maintain regression coverage across UI, API, integration, system-level testing and audio testing
Use visual regression testing where it is genuinely useful.
Make sure automated tests run reliably in CI/CD.
Investigate flaky tests, false failures, test-environment issues and unreliable test data rather than simply re-running jobs until they pass.
Work with developers to make products easier to test and easier to diagnose when something goes wrong.
Help with exploratory, manual and hardware-related testing when needed.
Reproduce issues, look through logs, test different setups and work with developers to understand the real cause of a failure.
Take part in discussions about risk, release readiness and what needs testing before software goes out.
Keep relevant test documentation and execution plans up to date in QASE.
Work with servers, network-connected systems, audio equipment and the test environments around them.
What we need from you
You should be comfortable writing and maintaining production-quality Python code. We are looking for someone who can take responsibility for an automation framework, not someone who only adds test cases to a framework designed by somebody else.
You should have:
At least five years of experience in test automation, software development or a similar engineering role.
Experience taking ownership of an automation framework, or making major improvements to one that already existed.
Experience starting an automation framework for a new product or project, including making decisions about how it should be structured, run and reported on.
Strong Python skills.
Good hands-on pytest experience, including fixtures, parametrisation, organising tests, reporting and test configuration.
Practical Playwright experience. You should be comfortable using it for stable UI automation and have experience with areas such as authentication, test isolation, API testing or running browser tests in CI.
Experience working with Git, pull requests or code reviews, CI/CD and normal software development practices.
Experience investigating flaky tests and issues caused by environments, timing, data or dependencies.
A solid understanding of manual, exploratory, integration, system and regression testing.
ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level certification, or an equivalent recognised foundation-level testing qualification.
Excellent written and spoken English.
You do not need to come from an audio background. More important is that you are interested in learning how our products work and do not mind getting hands-on with hardware, devices and test environments.
Useful experience
These are not essential, but they would be useful in this role:
Linux or Windows administration
Servers, networking and TCP/IP
Docker, containers or virtual machines
Embedded systems, device interfaces or consumer electronics
Hardware-in-the-loop testing
Professional audio equipment
QASE or Jira
Security or compliance testing
What you will get to work on
You will work closely with software developers, product stakeholders, hardware engineers and audio specialists. The work is varied because our products involve software, hardware, networking and different device platforms.
You will have room to influence how we structure automation, which tests belong in CI, how we deal with unreliable test results and where we should focus our testing effort. We expect automation code to be reviewed and maintained properly, just like other code in the product.
This is a role for someone who wants to build useful testing tools and systems, not just execute a pre-defined list of tests.
Location and application
Your main workplace will be our HQ in Herlev, Denmark. We offer hybrid flexibility where it makes sense, but this is not a remote role. Working close to the team and the hardware matters for this position.
You must be eligible to work in Denmark and able to obtain any relevant work and residence permits.
We review applications as they come in, so please apply through our recruitment system. You do not need to send a separate cover letter, but please include a short note in your CV explaining why this role interests you.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Pascal, the power behind great sound.
