The opportunity
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Test system Engineer to develop, maintain, and improve the automation systems used in our advanced testing facilities for power electronics and HVDC converter valves at the HVDC Test Center.
In this role, you will be responsible for PLC programming, HMI development, control system troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of automated test systems. You will also support preventive maintenance activities and ensure the reliability, availability, and safety of critical test equipment and infrastructure.
You will be part of High Voltage Direct Current in Ludvika. We develop, manufacture, and sell DC transmission systems worldwide. HVDC technology is used to transfer electrical energy over long distances, enable power transmission through subsea cables, and connect power grids operating at different frequencies.
This role is based in Ludvika, Sweden.
How you’ll make an impact
- Develop and maintain PLC-based automation and control systems for advanced HVDC test equipment, including MACH.
- Design and enhance HMI solutions to improve usability, efficiency, and operational safety.
- Diagnose and resolve automation, control, and communication issues across complex test environments.
- Lead root cause investigations and drive corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.
- Support commissioning, upgrades, and lifecycle management of test and automation systems.
- Ensure high equipment availability through preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with engineering, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver robust automation solutions.
- Utilize CMMS and other digital tools to track maintenance activities, equipment performance, and improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and industrial control system requirements.
- Maintain technical documentation and provide technical guidance on automation systems and test equipment.
Your background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and industrial automation platforms.
- Experience developing and maintaining HMI/SCADA solutions in industrial environments.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, or OPC UA.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control system documentation, and instrumentation drawings.
- Experience troubleshooting automated systems and performing root cause analysis.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
