Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
A growing accounting and advisory practice based in Ballito is looking to appoint a motivated Trainee Accountant to join its team on a 12-month contract. This is an ideal first step for a recent BCom Accounting or Accounting Diploma graduate, or a final-year student, who wants genuine, hands-on exposure across the full spectrum of a practice: bookkeeping, tax, payroll, compliance and advisory work.
Full training will be provided, so previous experience is not essential. What matters most is a strong foundation in accounting, a sharp eye for detail and the drive to learn quickly. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, and there is a real possibility of a contract extension or permanent appointment for the right person at the end of the initial term.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Bookkeeping: capturing and processing transactions, reconciling bank and supplier accounts, and maintaining accurate client records.
• Tax functions: assisting with the preparation and submission of income tax, provisional tax and VAT returns, and related SARS correspondence.
• Payroll functions: assisting with monthly payroll processing, payslips and statutory deductions and submissions (PAYE, UIF and SDL).
• Compliance: supporting statutory and regulatory compliance work for clients and keeping filing deadlines on track.
• Advisory services: assisting senior staff with client queries, reports and advisory assignments.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• BCom Accounting degree or Accounting Diploma (final-year students are welcome to apply)
• 0 – 1 year of relevant experience preferred, but not required – training will be provided
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
ADVANTAGEOUS
• Experience with Xero or Sage accounting software
• Exposure to bookkeeping, tax or payroll through vacation work, internships or part-time roles
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
• Eager to learn and keen to build a long-term career in accounting
• Organised and methodical, able to manage several client files at once and meet deadlines
• Comfortable working independently on hybrid days, while knowing when to ask for guidance
• Professional, discreet and trustworthy in handling confidential client and financial information
• Available to start immediately (preferred)
