The Transport & Trade Specialist role offers a broad exposure to international logistics, customs and trade compliance activities, with close interaction across global functions and external partners. Excellent communication, flexibility, and a hands-on attitude are essential. The department also actively promotes and utilizes digital tools to streamline and enhance service delivery.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordination and monitoring of import and export shipments from and to our warehouses in Switzerland via courier, air, truck and sea freight.
- Manage customs clearance activities for import and export shipments (Passar), including the issuance and management of ATA/eATA Carnets for temporary imported and exported goods.
- Oversee battery and third-party material deliveries, ensuring compliance with Dangerous Goods Declarations (DGD) and safety data sheets.
- Act as a key point of contact for global transport, customs and logistics partners
- Support transport tendering activities and contribute to carrier performance monitoring.
- Coordinate packaging activities in line with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements, including sustainability and PPWR compliance initiatives.
- Issue shipping documents in accordance with customer requirements, country-specific regulations, and letters of credit (L/C), including Certificate of Origin.
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, sanctions, export control requirements, and company policies.
- Verification and account assignment of freight forwarder and logistics service invoices.
- Continuously seek to improve transport and customs processes, with a focus on quality, cost-efficiency, and on-time delivery.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS – REQUIRED
- Successfully completed commercial education, preferably complemented by further qualification in freight forwarding, logistics, customs or foreign trade.
- Good knowledge of international transport, Incoterms and customs procedures.
- Experience with secure air freight procedures, aviation security requirements, and regulated cargo processes.
- Confident use of ERP systems, ideally SAP S/4HANA, as well as standard Microsoft Office applications; experience with customs clearance software would be an advantage.
- Strong communication skills, with excellent German (C1) and good written and spoken English (B2).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple, conflicting tasks under time pressure.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS – DESIRED BUT NOT ESSENTIAL
- Knowledge of export controls, international sanctions, and trade compliance principles.
- Good understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations.
- Familiarity with temporary import/export procedures, ATA/eATA Carnets.
- Practical experience with export controls, preferential origin calculations, origin determination, and tariff classification.
- Experience with Letters of Credit (L/C) and international trade documentation.
