Michael Baker International is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our Alaska team. In this role, you'll help communities improve transportation, safety, mobility, and quality of life through planning, public engagement, data analysis, and project development.

Our planners collaborate with local governments, Tribal organizations, regional partners, and state agencies on projects ranging from transportation safety plans and corridor studies to grant funding strategies and community development initiatives. No two projects are the same, offering opportunities to work with communities across Alaska, from urban centers to remote villages.

We're looking for a curious, organized, and adaptable professional who enjoys solving problems, working with people, and using data to support meaningful infrastructure and community investments.

This position may be based in Anchorage, Fairbanks, or remotely within Alaska. You'll work alongside planners, engineers, GIS specialists, environmental professionals, and project managers while growing your career through mentorship and hands-on experience.

What You'll Do:

• Support transportation, safety, mobility, freight, and community planning projects.
• Gather, analyze, and visualize data to support planning decisions.
• Develop maps, presentations, reports, and public-facing materials.
• Assist with public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
• Collaborate with local governments, Tribal organizations, and agency partners.
• Research funding opportunities and support grant applications.
• Participate in field visits and community travel throughout Alaska.
• Support project management, proposal development, and business growth initiatives.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor’s degree in planning, Geography, Public Administration, Environmental Studies, Engineering, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in planning, transportation, public engagement, GIS, grant writing, or a related field.
• Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Interest in working directly with communities and stakeholders.
• Experience with GIS, mapping, data visualization, or graphic design tools is a plus.
• Willingness to learn, collaborate, and take on new challenges.
• Passion for making a positive impact in Alaska communities.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $76,000-$110,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
