Ready for the next step in your travel career?
Are you a travel manager, coordinator, TMC consultant, executive assistant or administrator who has managed complex travel, group movements or high-volume travel logistics?
This is your chance to bring your travel experience to a role with real purpose. You’ll support high-level visits, delegations and study tours for Pacific leaders as part of an Australian Government program.
About the Program
The Australia Pacific Leaders Program (APLP) is an Australian Government initiative that supports current and emerging Pacific leaders to strengthen their skills, deliver outcomes in their communities and build lasting relationships with Australia. APLP delivers a diverse range of activities across Australia and the Pacific, including high-level visits, study tours and professional development, creating varied and often complex travel requirements. Abt Global delivers the Program Support Unit (PSU) on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
The Opportunities
These opportunities will work closely with our travel management company (TMC) to deliver high-quality domestic and international travel for APLP. We’re interested in people with different levels of experience and are open to how the responsibilities are combined, depending on the skills and experience you bring.
For more experienced travel professionals, opportunities may include:
leading and overseeing the APLP travel function
acting as a key point of contact for DFAT, travellers and suppliers
representing travel at client meetings, including activity inception calls and planning and forecasting sessions
overseeing travel budgets, costings and expenditure
managing the TMC relationship, service performance and escalations
providing advice on complex travel requirements, risks and disruptions
driving continuous improvement of travel processes and systems
supporting broader program operations as required.
For hands-on travel and operations professionals, opportunities may include:
coordinating domestic and international travel through the TMC and online booking tools
managing complex itineraries, changes and time-sensitive travel requirements
working directly with hotels, airlines and suppliers to confirm and track operational and hospitality requirements
supporting delegations, study tours and high-level visits
maintaining accurate travel and financial records and supporting purchasing, approvals and expenditure reconciliation
supporting broader program operations, including insurance, procurement, compliance and finance.
About You
- Experience delivering domestic and international travel in a TMC, corporate or government environment.
Sound knowledge of airline fares, booking classes and fare rules.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and time-sensitive requests.
Confident communication skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from travellers and program teams to senior hotel and airline representatives.
A sharp eye for detail, with the ability to spot risks early and find practical solutions.
The ability to remain calm under pressure and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment.
- For more senior opportunities: experience leading a travel function, managing budgets and engaging senior stakeholders.
Highly regarded: GDS knowledge, experience with VIP, ministerial or delegation travel, and knowledge of Pacific travel.
Why Join Us?
Flexibility that fits your life. Balance is one of Abt’s core values. We encourage conversations about when, where and how you work. Flexible options may include part-time hours, flexible start and finish times and remote working, depending on the role and program needs.
Your wellbeing matters. Abt provides access to confidential Employee Assistance Program support, alongside a supportive and collaborative working environment.
Purposeful, varied work. No two weeks are the same. You’ll support Pacific leaders, ministerial delegations and study tours through an Australian Government program, contributing to stronger relationships between Australia and the Pacific.
Grow your career. Build your experience in government and international development travel, with room to share ideas and help shape how our travel function works.
How to Apply
Please apply online through Abt Careers with your CV and a short cover letter telling us about your relevant experience, the type of role you’re interested in and what you could bring to the APLP travel team. Please submit one document only.
