Company Description FreeAppStore is an open platform for free, high-quality web applications with no ads, paywalls, subscriptions, or hidden costs. The catalog includes 27+ browser-based productivity and utility tools, from timers and note-taking apps to habit trackers, flashcards, calculators, and more, all available without downloads or accounts. The platform also supports indie developers with zero-cost hosting on Cloudflare’s global edge network, streamlined deployment pipelines, and a modern stack using TypeScript, React, Vite, and Tailwind CSS. FreeAppStore focuses on removing infrastructure barriers so creators can concentrate on building useful software. Its mission is to make practical tools accessible to everyone, emphasizing software that serves users rather than monetizing them.

Role Description This is a remote, unpaid volunteer role for a UI/UX Mobile App Design Intern at FreeAppStore. The intern will collaborate with designers and developers to create user-centered mobile interfaces for existing and new apps in the catalog. Day-to-day tasks include designing wireframes and mockups, defining user flows, and creating interactive prototypes that align with FreeAppStore’s visual style and usability standards. The intern will conduct informal user research, gather feedback, and iterate on designs to improve accessibility, clarity, and overall user experience. The role also involves preparing design handoffs for front-end implementation and contributing to a consistent design system across multiple applications.

Qualifications

  • Ability to create clear mockups and wireframes and translate ideas into visual design concepts.
  • Skills in user experience design (UED), including user flows, interaction patterns, and usability considerations.
  • Experience with prototyping tools to build and test interactive mobile app prototypes.
  • Basic understanding of front-end development principles to collaborate effectively with engineers.
  • Familiarity with mobile design guidelines (iOS/Android), responsiveness, and accessibility best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to accept and apply feedback, and comfort working in a remote, async environment.
  • Currently studying or self-learning UI/UX, graphic design, HCI, or a related field; a portfolio or sample projects is highly beneficial.
  • Interest in open platforms, free software, and building tools that are inclusive and widely accessible.
