This role is ideal for an experienced Underwriter or lending professional looking to take their first formal step into leadership.

- Support audits and quality assurance activity, ensuring findings are addressed through coaching, training, and process improvements.
- Promote adherence to lending policy, operational controls, and FCA Consumer Duty principles.
- Help implement new controls, policies, systems, tools, and automation initiatives.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance, Training, Compliance, Product, and Technology teams.
- Support the achievement of individual and team performance targets, taking proactive action to address performance gaps.
- Recognise and celebrate high performance while managing underperformance through coaching, development plans, and formal performance processes where appropriate.
- Deputise to the Underwriting Manager when required.
What we're looking for:

- A strong track record of accurate, fair, and consistent decision making.
- Experience supporting colleagues through coaching, mentoring, or informal leadership responsibilities.
- Good understanding of affordability, risk management, responsible lending, and customer outcomes.
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Comfortable using operational systems, performance data, and emerging technologies.
- Sound judgement in knowing when to resolve issues independently and when to escalate.
- Proven ability to set, monitor, and achieve individual and team targets while identifying and addressing underperformance in a timely, fair, and supportive manner.
Desirable experience:
- Previous experience as a Senior Underwriter, Team Coach, or Subject Matter Expert.
- Audit, Quality Assurance, or Compliance experience.
- Experience supporting vulnerable customers.
- Experience with process improvement initiatives, automation, or Salesforce.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing business priorities.
- Experience monitoring and managing performance against operational targets and service levels.

- Underwriters receiving timely, consistent, and effective support.
- Achievement of productivity, quality, and customer outcome targets.
- Improved team performance through coaching, training, and development.

- Effective embedding of new processes, controls, technologies, and ways of working.
- Clear escalation of risks and issues, supported by practical recommendations and solutions.
- A positive, accountable team culture that drives both performance and customer outcomes.
