Work Environment: We offer a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility to our employees in balancing in-office (2 days per week OR 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office) and remote work. Working Business Language: English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. The salary offered for this role is determined with consideration to various factors, including but not limited to: your work location, local labour market conditions, external market salary data, internal pay equity and the knowledge, skills, experience and anticipated proficiency in the role. Job Overview

Working under moderate supervision, the Commercial Insurance Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the utilization and maintenance of quality assurance and audit practices within the Commercial Insurance Underwriting function. The successful candidate will work with their leader in ensuring that corporate underwriting policies, procedures and controls support Wawanesa’s strategic goals and objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, implementation and management of annual risk assessments, review planning and scheduling.
  • Perform independent quality assurance reviews for all Commercial Operations to achieve the organization’s strategic objectives and risk profile, as well as contributing to drafting reports.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of a regional underwriting file review, contributing to drafting reports. Including calibration reviews to ensure alignment and support the organization’s strategic objectives and risk profile are achieved.
  • Participate in the Ethidex, FSRA, Facility Association, CCIR Fair Treatment of Customer and other compliance reviews as required for Commercial.
  • Collaborate with executive and Operational leadership by challenging ineffective and inefficient processes and identifying continuous improvement opportunities including exceptional file handling practices and capabilities.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of best practices and documentation for identifying and mitigating risk in alignment with corporate strategies.
  • Participate in commercial lines underwriting initiatives and support action plans to drive financial results and efficiencies.
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and changes to ensure Wawanesa is prepared to respond in a manner consistent with our vision and values.
  • Maintain, track, and ensure timely response to various operational reporting deadlines as assigned.
  • Promote the Company's Code of Conduct and values, and models’ behaviors that align to these principles.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years Property and Casualty industry experience and/or experience conducting compliance reviews.
  • Post-secondary education and/or commitment to completion of a Property and Casualty industry designation (CIP/FCIP).
  • Professional audit designation (CIA and/or CFE), or commitment to obtaining same would be an asset.
  • Experience dealing with regulatory authorities and a background in reviewing legislation are considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Audit or Quality Assurance practices is considered an asset.
  • Technical competence in auto, property and liability underwriting with a solid understanding and application of best practices in commercial insurance.
  • Ability to use critical thinking, logic, critical reasoning, and good judgement to get to the root of issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct detailed analysis of information and to select and implement best solutions promptly.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate at the right level for the audience and present information or arguments in a convincing manner.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to develop and prioritize effective plans that define activities, resources, and timelines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with audit and quality assurance software is considered an asset.
