Work Flexibility: Remote or Hybrid or Onsite

It's Time to Join Stryker!

Location: Weston, FL (Preferred) | Kalamazoo, MI (Considered) | Remote/Hybrid Flexibility Subject to Approval

Are you passionate about designing intuitive, high-quality software experiences that make a meaningful impact? Join Stryker's Mako Robotics team and help shape the user interfaces that support robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery.

As a Staff level User Interface and Experience Designer, you'll play a key role in developing the software experiences used in Mako's hip replacement applications. You'll combine strong visual and interaction design expertise with hands-on technical execution, translating complex workflows into intuitive interfaces and detailed, production-ready design specifications.

This is an opportunity to contribute to both current and next-generation Mako technologies. You'll help deliver critical UI designs for existing applications while collaborating across engineering, product development, and design teams to influence the future of robotic-assisted surgery.

You'll join a collaborative, geographically distributed team that values creativity, attention to detail, technical excellence, and the ability to take ownership of your work.

What You Will Do

User Interface Design & Development

  • Design and develop intuitive, visually consistent software interfaces for Mako robotic-assisted surgery applications, with an initial focus on Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA).
  • Create high-fidelity interface designs, screen layouts, interactive prototypes, and reusable UI components using Figma and established design systems.
  • Translate complex clinical workflows, product requirements, and user needs into clear, functional, and accessible software experiences.
  • Apply visual and interaction design principles, including typography, color, layout, navigation, messaging, component states, and user feedback.
  • Develop detailed, production-ready UI specifications that accurately communicate design intent to software development teams.
  • Create and manage design assets, component libraries, naming conventions, documentation, and version-controlled design deliverables.

User Experience & Product Development

  • Contribute to the development of next-generation Mako applications through workflow analysis, concept exploration, prototyping, and iterative design.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers, product owners, and cross-functional teams to incorporate user feedback, clinical insights, and usability considerations into design solutions.
  • Support design reviews, usability evaluations, and voice-of-customer activities to refine interfaces and improve the overall user experience.
  • Balance user needs, technical feasibility, design consistency, and product requirements throughout the development process.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Design Ownership

  • Partner closely with software engineers, scrum teams, product owners, systems engineers, and other designers to support successful implementation of UI designs.
  • Collaborate with design teams across Mako's hip, knee, and shoulder applications to maintain consistency within shared software platforms and design systems.
  • Independently manage assigned design activities, proactively resolve challenges, and drive deliverables from concept through implementation.
  • Communicate design decisions, technical specifications, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, documentation standards, tools, and team practices.
  • Support applicable medical device design controls, usability, and quality requirements throughout product development.

  • Proficiency with Figma, including experience working with shared design systems, component libraries, and high-fidelity interface designs is required.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop is required.

Preferred Qualifications (You do not need to all of these)
