User Interface Designer
Unicorn DomainAthens | Hybrid 2|3, near Megaro Mousikis metro station
Position overview
Unicorn Domain is growing its Design practice with a Mid-Level UI Designer to work on dashboards and front-end systems for enterprise clients.
You'll design complex, data-dense interfaces (admin panels, monitoring dashboards, configuration and reporting screens) where clarity under density is the real skill, not decoration. You'll also take the lead on setting up our design libraries and our first company-wide design system, built on MUI (Material UI) as its foundation to match our React front-end, working closely with Business Analysis and Development to make sure it actually gets used, not just documented.
This role suits a designer who already has solid UI craft behind them, thinks in systems rather than one-off screens, and wants to own something foundational, building the design system rather than inherit one that's already set.
About us
Unicorn Domain develops scalable, high-performance cloud enterprise software for demanding clients in Greece and internationally. We operate an engineering organisation of approximately 65 professionals, structured in squads and chapters on the Spotify model.
Design is a growing practice within engineering, working alongside Business Analysis, Development, QA and DevOps to bring UX and UI craft earlier into how software gets built. Joining now means shaping how that practice works, not just executing inside an established one.
Key responsibilities
- Interface design for dashboards and front-end systems Design and iterate on data-dense, enterprise-grade UI (dashboards, admin panels, configuration and reporting interfaces) applying visual hierarchy, error prevention and established usability patterns rather than defaulting to the simplest layout that ships.
- UX craft within delivery Clarify flows and interaction logic with Business Analysis and Product before a screen reaches development, reducing ambiguity that would otherwise surface mid-build.
- Design system architecture Lead the setup of our design libraries and our first company-wide design system, using MUI as the foundation rather than building every primitive from scratch, theming its components and tokens to our own visual language. Define token tiers (global, alias, component), component structure, states and naming conventions built to scale, and how that structure should translate into our React front-end (the design-side logic of the system, not the backend build). You'll be the one deciding how it's built, not just applying one handed to you.
- Design-system tooling Work fluently with Figma Variables, Dev Mode and component-driven workflows as the operational backbone of the system, and keep it documented and discoverable so it actually gets adopted rather than ignored.
- UI trends and benchmarking Keep our interface patterns current, bringing in relevant UI trends and benchmarking, particularly for dashboard-heavy and admin-tool interfaces, and know when a trend is worth adopting.
- Cross-functional collaboration Work day to day with Business Analysis, Development, QA and DevOps, and contribute to the Design practice's emerging standards, patterns and documentation.
Required qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on UI design experience, ideally on web applications, dashboards, admin tools or other data-dense enterprise software
- A portfolio that demonstrates complex interface work, not just marketing sites or landing pages
- Solid UX fundamentals: usability heuristics, error prevention, information architecture and flow design
- Strong working proficiency in Figma, including Variables, Dev Mode, components, auto layout and library/team-library management
- Hands-on experience building or substantially structuring a design system or component library — not only consuming one someone else built
- Experience theming or customizing an existing component library (MUI/Material UI or a comparable system) to a distinct brand, rather than only building components from raw primitives
- A clear understanding of how design tokens are structured in tiers (global, alias, component) and how that structure should map to front-end implementation
- Precise communication in English, written and verbal
Preferred qualifications
- Experience designing for enterprise or B2B software, internal tools, or admin/config-heavy products
- Direct experience with MUI (Material UI) specifically, its theming system, component variants and how it maps to a Figma library or a closely comparable component library
- Experience with Tokens Studio or an equivalent Figma token-management plugin, and awareness of the W3C design token (DTCG) format as the emerging interoperability standard
- Experience publishing and maintaining a design system in a documentation tool such as Zeroheight or Supernova, so the system stays discoverable as it grows
- Working knowledge of current UI trends and established pattern libraries (e.g. Material, Fluent, Carbon)
- Experience getting developer buy-in and adoption for a design system, not just publishing one
- Basic front-end literacy (HTML/CSS fundamentals) and familiarity with Figma Dev Mode/Code Connect, enough to discuss feasibility directly with developers
- Exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery
How we work
We operate a Scrum-based Agile framework inspired by the Spotify model. Design partners closely with the Business Analysis Chapter and with Development, QA and DevOps to catch ambiguity and validate flows before a single line of code is written. You'll work with Figma as our design and collaboration tool, alongside Claude and Claude Design, which are embedded in our standard toolchain for prototyping and analysis support.
What we offer
- Real input into building a design practice from close to zero, not a fixed process to inherit
- Ownership of a foundational build, our first design system and libraries, not maintenance of one that already exists
- Direct collaboration with senior analysts, developers and QA on enterprise-scale programs
- Hybrid working, two days on site and three remote
- Continuous learning and certification support
- Competitive remuneration, aligned to experience
