VAC_53_2026 - LABORATORY TECHNICIAN Join the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute and contribute to our mission of innovating and advancing the fight against leukaemia and other hematologic diseases. The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth. The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) . The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals : Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings. The Josep Carreras Leukemia Research Institute is looking for a Laboratory Technician in the Stem cell biology, developmental leukemia and immunotherapy group led by Dr. Pablo Menéndez. RESEARCH DESCRIPTION The Stem Cell Biology, Developmental Leukemia and Immunotherapy Group, led by Dr. Pablo Menendez, is interested in understanding the cellular origin, etiology and pathogenesis of childhood leukemia. We aim to ascertain the cell in which mutations occur and we strive to discover which cells are responsible for triggering relapses. Furthermore, we work to identify new therapeutic targets and develop more targeted, less toxic therapies. To achieve this, our laboratory uses various approaches, including genetic studies, epigenetic techniques and animal models, as well as adoptive cell immunotherapy tools. MAIN RESPONSABILITIES • Support in the management and handling of the laboratory’s different mouse colonies. • Support in in vivo experiments, including administration of substances through different routes, IVIS imaging, euthanasia, and sample collection and processing. • Support in monitoring animal welfare. • Support in the general management and organization of the laboratory. • Support in tissue sample processing. • Support in molecular and cell biology techniques. WHAT WE NEED • Degree or technical qualification in Biology, Human Nutrition, Pharmacy, Biotechnology or a related field. • Accredited Training Course for Laboratory Animal Personnel (Functions a–c: Care and Euthanasia) in rodents. • Experience with mouse models, especially in the context of handling of laboratory animals, colony management, and animal welfare monitoring. • Experience in substance administration through different routes will be considered an asset, including intraperitoneal, intravenous, subcutaneous, intratibial, intrahepatic, and oral gavage administration. • Fluency in English will be considered a plus. • Willingness to learn and strong teamwork skills • Pro-active, responsible and well-organized • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with other team members WHAT WE OFFER • Permanent contract (Contrato indefinido por actividades científico-técnicas (IACT)) La contratación es parte del proyecto “Inestabilidad cromosómica y patofisiología de las células iniciadoras de leucemia en la leucemia linfoblástica aguda pediátrica con aneuploidías.” referencia PID2022-142966OB-I00 financiado por MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 y por FEDER, Una manera de hacer Europa. • Full-time contract (39 working hours per week). • An exciting and innovative research project.” • Measures to reconcile work and family life. • Flexible remuneration program (kindergarten and other measures). • The opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects in molecular biology and translational research. • Work in a mixed basic and clinical research environment at the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute. • The stimulating environment of the IJC and its scientific network.
