The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a comprehensive cancer research center dedicated to conduct research and drive innovation in the epidemiological, preventive, clinical, translational, and basic aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies, with the final aim of finding a cure for these diseases. It was created in 2010, and since then has experienced an exponential growth. The IJC is also part of the network of Excellence Research Centers of Catalonia (CERCA) and was accredited as a Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence by the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities in 2024. Since 2018, the Institute has also been accredited by the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (FCAECC) Additionally, IJC is one of the centers integrated into the Institut de Recerca Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) accreditation as Accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) . The IJC's main headquarters is located within the Can Ruti Biomedical Campus, alongside other leading biomedical institutions, providing direct access to cutting-edge scientific and technological facilities, as well as complementary community services. The IJC has six locations integrated into reference hospitals : Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Clínic, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Josep Trueta, Hospital del Mar and Hospital San Joan de Déu. This facilitates close collaboration between basic and clinical researchers, fostering translational research that integrates basic science with clinical practice in clinical settings. The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute, dedicated to promoting, developing, transferring, managing, and disseminating research, scientific and technological knowledge, teaching, and training in the field of hematological biomedicine of excellence particularly concerning leukemia and other malignant hematologic diseases; is seeking to hire a SENIOR LEGAL OFFICER to provide legal assistance and safeguard the Institute’s interests, reporting to the Legal Unit of the research institute. MAIN RESPONSABILITIES The professional will join the Legal team to provide specialized legal support to research and translational activities. The role will focus on providing legal advice and drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements and contracts related to these research and translational activities of the Institute, mainly linked to two the new Programs Path2Cure (P2C) and the Centre for 22nd Century Diagnostics (C22D). Main functions: Legal management, drafting and negotiation of agreements and contracts, including among others: Framework agreements, research collaboration agreements and scientific collaborations at both national and international levels, in preclinical and translational activities and AI-based translational projects, with healthcare entities, multicentre research networks and industry partners. Intellectual property and technology transfer agreements, including commercialization of IP assets, License Agreements, Material and Data transfer agreements (MTA/DTA) and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA). Clinical trial procedures, including cooperative clinical trial group agreements. Grant agreements for both competitive and non-competitive projects. Sponsorship and donation agreements. Legal advice to research activities in the following legal areas: Biomedical research regulations, including legal advice on ethics committee submissions and approvals, and on the legal and regulatory requirements governing the collection, use, storage, transfer of biological samples/clinical data and related policies. Regulatory requirements applicable to translational research and therapeutic development, including support for IND-enabling activities and interactions with regulatory authorities such as the EMA and AEMPS. Legal and regulatory aspects of artificial intelligence applied to biomedical research and precision medicine, including compliance with emerging regulatory frameworks. Definition of the research activities in compliance with personal data protection regulations, including GDPR and LOPDGDD, public procurement procedures, and employment-related legal matters affecting scientific personnel, including dual affiliations in coordination with HR. Liaise with regulatory authorities, funding agencies, and external lawyers to carry out the administrative and legal procedures required for the research activities. Registration and update of legal records and documentation of the research activities. Perform other legal duties inherent to the position or required by the Head of Legal or the Managing Director. WHAT WE NEED Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law. Additional specialized training will be valued in: Health or Biomedical Law Personal Data Protection Clinical Research and/or Bioethics Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in similar roles within research environments, hospitals, or public/health institutions. Expert knowledge of the legal framework applicable to biomedical research, data protection and public procurement. Experience in providing legal advice to scientific and/or clinical teams. COMPETENCIES Ability to work in a team, with strong organizational and planning skills. Effectiveness and results orientation. Analytical thinking with ability to design legal strategies adapted to each project. High sense of confidentiality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Catalan and Spanish.
