Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a geographically diverse team responsible for planning, executing, and reporting credit and fraud risk audits and related initiatives in accordance with professional and departmental standards, approved budgets, and established deadlines.

  • Lead audit-related regulatory examinations and interactions, coordinating responses and ensuring clear, timely, and well-supported communication with regulatory bodies.

  • Build and sustain deep subject-matter expertise across credit and fraud risk controls, including credit concentrations, and translate that expertise into effective audit coverage.

  • Oversee risk and control assessments and the development of high-quality, actionable audit findings, partnering with relevant control groups and external auditors to coordinate audit planning and execution.

  • Generate forward-looking business and risk insights by expanding and overseeing a portfolio of audit analytics, including data-driven monitoring and continuous assurance capabilities.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior colleagues and co-sourced resources across the audit and analytics lifecycle, audit methodology, and broader role responsibilities.

  • Manage team capacity, capability-building, and talent planning, including training, recruiting pipelines, candidate screening, and selection.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in internal audit, credit risk, fraud risk, operational risk, compliance, or a related control function within the financial services industry.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing teams, overseeing multiple complex engagements, and providing clear, actionable developmental feedback.

  • Deep knowledge of credit and/or fraud risk management frameworks, including governance, risk assessment, underwriting, customer management, portfolio monitoring, collections, fraud prevention and detection, investigations, issue management, and reporting.

  • Strong understanding of risks across consumer, commercial, or small business lending and payment lifecycles, including credit concentrations, first-party and victim fraud, account takeover, phishing, identity theft, cyber-enabled fraud, and other emerging threats.

  • Working knowledge of regulations and industry guidance applicable to credit and fraud risk management, including FCRA, ECOA, BSA, PSD2, and comparable international frameworks.

  • Strong command of professional auditing practices, control theory, and the end-to-end audit lifecycle, including risk assessment, control design and operating effectiveness testing, issue development, and reporting.

  • Experience evaluating technology-dependent controls, including system interfaces, reports, application security, business continuity, and third-party risk.

  • Demonstrated ability to use data analytics, visualization, KRIs, KPIs, scorecards, and dashboards to identify risk themes, assess control effectiveness, and communicate actionable insights.

  • Ability to break down complex problems, integrate data analysis with business-process and risk-and-control knowledge, and develop practical, well-supported recommendations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues, conclusions, and recommendations clearly and credibly to senior management, regulators, and other stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities, and deliver results through sound judgment, project management, and creative problem-solving.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, risk management, information systems, data analytics, information technology, or a related field.
