Role Summary

5C Data Centers is a rapidly scaling data center developer building national execution capability across large, complex, power-driven campuses. We support hyperscale, AI/high-density, powered land, and multi-building data center programs from site development and power planning through construction delivery, commissioning, and customer turnover.

This leader will build and lead a lean Construction Delivery organization, establish consistent field execution standards, and integrate closely with Planning & Development (PLaD), Pre-Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Cost Control, Commissioning & Quality, Technical Program Management, Operations, and customers. Success requires strong field leadership, executive judgment, technical depth, and the ability to bring order to ambiguity in a rapidly scaling environment.

How We Work at 5C

Our core values guide how we collaborate, make decisions, support one another, and serve our customers. We're looking for people who embrace them and help us build something great.

What You Will Do

Construction Execution & Delivery Accountability

  • Own safe, on-time construction execution from GC mobilization through substantial completion, commissioning support, turnover, and customer handover.
  • Hold GCs accountable for integrated execution, including coordination of all owner-furnished, vendor, utility, commissioning, controls, and third-party activities that affect the project schedule.
  • Drive recovery planning and decisive intervention when safety, schedule, cost, quality, resource, logistics, or interface performance threatens commitments.

Build & Lead the Construction Organization

  • Recruit, lead, coach, and scale a lean Construction Delivery team capable of supporting multiple high-value projects without overbuilding the organization.
  • Establish clear roles, decision rights, staffing ratios, performance expectations, escalation paths, and succession plans for field leadership.
  • Create a culture of ownership, candor, autonomy, continuous improvement, and omni-directional accountability.

Contractor Strategy, Governance & Performance

  • Partner with Pre-Construction, Procurement, Legal, and Commercial teams on GC strategy, contracting approach, scope clarity, constructability, logistics, schedule requirements, and execution risk.
  • Establish consistent GC performance expectations and scorecards for safety, schedule, cost, quality, staffing, planning, coordination, closeout, and customer readiness.
  • Ensure contractors maintain credible, fully integrated schedules and actively manage subcontractors, vendors, owner-furnished equipment, and third-party interfaces.

Schedule, Cost & Change Discipline

  • Partner with Project Controls and Cost Control to ensure construction forecasts, critical paths, progress, productivity, commitments, contingency, cash flow, and change exposure are accurate and decision-ready.
  • Require timely mitigation and recovery plans for variance; challenge unsupported forecasts, excessive float consumption, late change identification, and unowned constraints.
  • Ensure field decisions consider schedule, commercial, customer, capital, and downstream commissioning impacts.

Safety, Quality & Commissioning Readiness

  • Champion an uncompromising safety culture and require contractors and field leaders to proactively identify and eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Partner with Commissioning & Quality to drive first-time quality, turnover package readiness, system completion, punch-list closure, L1–L5 commissioning readiness, IST support, and defect prevention.
  • Ensure construction sequencing protects energization, controls integration, testing, customer witness activities, and turnover milestones.

Cross-Functional Project Integration

  • Integrate closely with PLaD, Pre-Construction, Engineering, Procurement, Technical Program Management, Project Controls, Cost, Commissioning & Quality, Operations, and customer teams.
  • Ensure design readiness, long-lead equipment, utilities, permits, temporary facilities, logistics, vendor access, energization, and turnover dependencies are incorporated into field execution plans.
  • Escalate cross-functional decisions early with clear facts, options, tradeoffs, owners, dates, and recommended actions.

Customer & Executive Leadership

  • Represent Construction Delivery in executive governance and customer-facing reviews with clear command of commitments, risks, recovery actions, and decision needs.
  • Protect customer delivery dates by driving transparent reporting, early risk identification, disciplined issue resolution, and reliable handover planning.
  • Translate field conditions into concise business implications for executive leadership, including schedule, capital, contractual, reputational, and customer impacts.

Standardization, Lessons Learned & Scale

  • Establish practical construction standards, playbooks, meeting cadences, reporting expectations, readiness checklists, and handoff requirements that improve predictability without slowing execution.
  • Capture lessons learned and feed them back into PLaD, Pre-Construction, design, procurement, contracting, construction, and commissioning standards.
  • Use data, benchmarking, prefabrication, modularization, DFMA, and repeatable delivery methods to improve speed, quality, productivity, and scalability.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline. PMP, CCM, PE, or comparable credentials are beneficial but not required.
  • 15+ years of progressive construction leadership experience in data centers, mission-critical, industrial, power, advanced manufacturing, or comparable large capital programs; significant data center experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple concurrent, complex construction projects and senior field teams with accountability for safety, schedule, cost, quality, and turnover.
  • Strong knowledge of data center civil, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, controls, life-safety, utility, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Experience managing major GCs, EPC/design-build partners, subcontractors, vendors, and owner-furnished equipment in fast-track environments.
  • Executive-level communication, commercial judgment, negotiation, problem-solving, and stakeholder leadership skills; able to influence across functions without relying solely on authority.
  • Ability to build structure and teams in an early-stage, rapidly scaling environment while remaining hands-on enough to solve real project issues.
