Vice President, Finance

Headway Group is leading the search for a Vice President, Finance on behalf of our client, a growing Canadian health services platform building an integrated network of specialized mobility care providers. Reporting to the CEO and serving as a key member of a small leadership team, the Vice President will inherit a lean finance team and take a hands-on role in developing its capabilities, building the broader function, and establishing the financial infrastructure required to support acquisition-led and organic growth.

The role will work with acquired businesses, often smaller, practitioner-led organizations, to integrate them into a scalable operating model and unlock organic growth. Success will require the judgment and credibility to advise the CEO, make timely decisions, and prioritize the investments in people, systems and processes required to build a high performing finance function.

This is a remote role with the ability to operate in an Eastern time zone.

Outcomes

Create an integrated finance platform. Develop a scalable finance operating model across multiple entities without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Improve visibility into business performance. Establish reliable, consolidated reporting, appropriate KPIs and forward-looking analysis that enables leadership to understand profitability, cash generation, operating performance and areas of opportunity.

Strengthen financial discipline. Improve controls, forecasting, treasury, cash management, lender reporting and financial governance to support a growing and increasingly complex organization.

Support acquisition and integration. Partner with the CEO and Corporate Development on financial diligence, valuation assumptions, quality-of-earnings analysis and integration planning. Ensure acquired businesses can be effectively incorporated into enterprise reporting and financial processes.

Build the finance organization for the next stage of growth. Assess existing capabilities, clarify accountabilities and develop a high-performing finance team capable of supporting both local operations and enterprise priorities.

Act as a trusted partner to the CEO. Translate financial and operating information into clear business decisions and bring constructive challenge to investment, resource allocation and performance discussions.

The Leadership Profile

A finance leader who brings enterprise level judgment, commercial acumen and the willingness, patience and urgency to get into the operating details. This finance leader knows that effective finance leadership is more than controls. It is about creating better information, better decisions and stronger operating performance. Critical to this role is the ability to build the finance capability required to turn acquisition led growth into an integrated, better performing business.

Relevant Experience:

  • Built, integrated or materially improved finance capabilities in growing organizations, ideally across multiple entities or locations.
  • Experience in investor backed, acquisition-led growth in multi-site healthcare, professional services or another distributed operating environment would be particularly relevant.
  • The commercial judgment and communication skills to partner effectively with a CEO, investors, lenders and operating leaders.
  • Experience building and developing finance teams.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, KPI and decision-support capabilities.
  • A strong foundation in controllership, reporting, controls, treasury and financial governance; a CPA designation is preferred.
