The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President, Nationwide Health Promotions. Working as a member of the Health Promotions department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy. The Vice President, Nationwide Health Promotions leads the American Lung Association’s largest mission division, with responsibility for the strategy, sustainability, structure and operational systems that enable Health Promotions to deliver with effectiveness and efficiency. Overseeing an annual budget of approximately $30 million, the Vice President, Nationwide Health Promotions serves as a strategic, operational and administrative leader to ensure the division runs with rigor, accountability, and demonstrated impact through alignment with evidence-based programs and practices. In a secondary capacity, the VP partners with leaders across Advocacy, HelpLine and Research to advance integrated strategies. Location: Nationwide Nationwide: If near an office location, this role will be hybrid and require a minimum of two days per week in the office. We are also considering remote applicants and encourage candidates in any location in the United States to apply. Responsibilities: Develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive, multi-year fund development strategy to intentionally sustain and diversify the $30 million operating budget for Health Promotions. Provide strategic direction and oversight of all health promotion staff (approximately 150 staff); maximizing the structure and establishing performance and organizational standards. Utilize prevalence data and community need assessments to create, implement and evaluate the annual program of work; aligning with strategic imperatives, evidence-based strategies and programming, and ensuring the work is right-sized for operating capacity and focused on highest impact. Oversee signature programs and reports; expanding industry leadership and strategic partnerships in lung health and ensuring fidelity of implementation aligned with formal quality improvement frameworks, performance benchmarks, and implementation audits Fulfill direct and delegated administrative accountability for grants, contracts, and procurement; implementing systems to centralize grants administration; and ensuring programming and compliance obligations are exceeded and funder relationships are effectively stewarded throughout the grant life cycle. Lead budget development, management, and reporting, including annual budget cycles, mid-year projections, and variance analysis; serving as the primary liaison between Health Promotions and the Finance department on budget matters, audit preparation, and financial compliance requirements Lead scenario-level planning in response to federal policy shifts, funding disruptions, or regulatory changes, developing contingency frameworks that protect program continuity and grant deliverable integrity Create visibility and build strategic partnerships that expand program reach, close gaps in geographic and demographic impact, and advance the organization’s position as a national leader in lung health. Develop, implement and oversee frameworks and systems for evaluation, data governance and impact reporting. Lead workforce planning and staffing management for Health Promotions, including professional development, capacity and retention planning that results in an inclusive workforce and consistent practices across hiring, compensation and advancement. Collaborate with leaders in Advocacy, HelpLine and Research, Development and Marketing and Communication to co-create, implement and evaluate cross-functional initiatives that fund, communicate and advance mission priorities. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, or related field required. Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in fund development and grants administration; and program design, implementation and evaluation with at least 7 years in a senior or executive level role. Demonstrated systems and strategic thinker with experience leading large, complex, matrixed mission departments with multiple program lines and funding streams. Proven track record of building and managing multi-million dollar program budgets and government, corporate and foundation grant portfolios. Deep content expertise in chronic disease prevention and management with preference for experience in lung health, respiratory disease or related conditions. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing senior teams and build organizational capacity. Experience navigating and influencing across organizational division without direct authority. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to represent the organization externally with funders, partners and policy makers. Consistent with its mission, the American Lung Association maintains a smoke-free workplace; all employees must abstain from tobacco use in any form, including vaping. Compensation: Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. The target hiring range for this position is between $118,000 and $166,000 per annum. Benefits : The Lung Association offers a comprehensive benefits package including: Paid Leave - 10 vacation days in the first year (15 days thereafter), 2 personal days and 15 sick days per year, as well as 12 company-paid holidays per year. We also offer Paid Parental Leave for eligible employees.
