At PetVet Care Centers, our mission is to improve the lives of animals and people — providing exceptional and compassionate care at every stage — for all the moments that matter.

Because life is better with pets.

We deliver the Ultimate Care Experience — every pet, every client, every time. That starts with a Culture of Care that supports our team members as much as the pets and clients we serve.

With more than 420 locally led hospitals and over 11,000 team members nationwide, we offer:

  • Local autonomy with national support
  • Career mobility and development opportunities
  • A collaborative, inclusive environment where your wellbeing comes first

You care for pets. We care for you.

Position Overview

The Vice President, Portfolio Management is responsible for the strategic oversight, operational performance, and long-term optimization of a nationwide portfolio of approximately 425 centers. This executive will lead real estate, lease administration, facilities management, and construction-related initiatives to ensure each location is safe, compliant, well maintained, and positioned to support business growth.

This is a remote position requiring approximately 30–40% travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the company’s nationwide real estate and facilities portfolio, encompassing approximately 425 centers.
  • Oversee real estate, facilities, construction, maintenance, and lease-management activities across all locations.
  • Develop and execute portfolio strategies that support operational needs, financial performance, growth plans, and risk mitigation.
  • Lead and develop a team of two Facilities Managers, while managing outsourced facilities-response and lease-management partners.
  • Establish clear service standards, performance metrics, and accountability for internal and external partners.
  • Oversee lease administration, including renewals, amendments, critical dates, landlord relationships, lease compliance, and site-related obligations.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, Operations, and leadership teams on lease negotiations, capital planning, site decisions, and portfolio risk.
  • Manage facilities maintenance and repair programs, ensuring timely resolution of issues and consistent service delivery across the portfolio.
  • Oversee capital projects, renovations, relocations, expansions, and other construction-related initiatives as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, life-safety requirements, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets; identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and vendor performance.
  • Conduct regular site visits and maintain a strong understanding of regional operating needs and facility conditions.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and escalation point for complex real estate, facilities, and construction matters.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Business, Facilities Management, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Significant progressive leadership experience in real estate portfolio management, lease administration, and facilities management, ideally supporting a large, multi-site national footprint.
  • Demonstrated experience managing commercial leases, landlord relationships, renewals, and lease-related risk.
  • Strong facilities-management experience, including preventive maintenance, vendor oversight, service-level management, and capital planning.
  • Construction, renovation, or project-management experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage outsourced service providers effectively.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budget ownership, capital planning, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
