About the Company
An indie color cosmetics company based in Los Angeles is hiring a Video Editor for social
media, digital marketing, and paid advertising.
About the Role
You take a raw footage and return finished, on-brand video: fast, in volume, and in multiple
variations per concept. The hiring bar is visual taste plus speed.
You must understand both virality and conversion: why one video gets watched, shared,
and pushed by the algorithm, and why another makes a viewer buy. You apply both to
every video you edit, not only the ones briefed as ads.
This is not a long-form or cinematic editing role. Most output is vertical short-form built to
stop a scroll and drive a purchase.
Position Video Editor (hands-on production, individual
contributor)
Experience 5+ years
Employment Full-time, remote
Engagement International SOW through staffing agency
Schedule Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM U.S. Pacific
Time. 8 working hours, a 30-minute lunch, and two
15-minute breaks.

What You'll Do
Virality and conversion in every edit. Build each video to earn both the view and the
sale: a hook that stops the scroll, pacing that holds retention, a format that fits current
platform trends, and a clear product payoff and call to action.
Short-form editing. Edit for TikTok, Instagram Reels, Meta ads, and YouTube Shorts, cut
to each platform's aspect ratio, safe zones, and caption conventions.
Raw footage to finished video. Turn raw footage, product demonstrations, and UGC
into polished videos: select takes, cut dead air, clean audio, and build a clear open,
demo, and call to action.
Variations for testing. Deliver multiple versions of each concept with different hooks,
pacing, transitions, and calls to action.
Finishing. Add motion graphics, on-screen typography, captions, sound effects, music,
and color grading. Product shades must read true to color.
Repurposing. Recut existing assets into new lengths, formats, and aspect ratios.
File discipline. Keep project files, versions, and exports organized and clearly named
so any teammate can find the final.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of professional video editing experience
Experience in a high-volume creative production environment
Exceptional visual taste and creative judgment, shown in the portfolio
Demonstrated understanding of what drives virality (hooks, retention, trends,
shareability) and what drives conversion (product proof, offer, call to action), with
examples and results to back it up
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent
Working proficiency in Adobe After Effects or a similar motion graphics tool
Strong understanding of short-form social content and paid advertising
Strong command of pacing, composition, typography, music, and storytelling
Proven ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong organization and time management
Excellent written and spoken English
Available full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM U.S. Pacific Time

Who This Role Is Not For
This role will not suit an editor who:
Waits for a shot-by-shot brief and stalls when the brief is loose
Delivers one version when the brief asked for variations
Polishes a single video for days while the queue backs up
Argues with revision notes or slows down instead of turning them
Goes quiet when a deadline is at risk instead of flagging it early
Leans on templates and presets, so the work looks like everyone else's
Keeps irregular hours and cannot be reached during Pacific business hours
Portfolio Requirements
Applications without a portfolio will not be reviewed. Candidates must provide:
1. A portfolio of their best 5 to 10 video editing projects
2. Examples of short-form social content
3. Examples of paid advertising creatives
4. Work that demonstrates strong aesthetics and editing skill
5. Previous production volume and average turnaround times, stated as numbers
Hiring Assessment
Shortlisted candidates complete a paid editing assessment. It evaluates:
Visual aesthetics and creative execution
Editing speed and efficiency
Technical editing ability

Budget. $3,000 to $3,300 per month maximum, all-in, including agency fees. Do not share
this figure with candidates.
Non-negotiables. The Pacific Time schedule above, 5+ years of experience, a high-volume
production background, and a portfolio that includes paid ad creatives. Please do not
submit candidates who miss any of these.
Send with each candidate. Portfolio link, their stated volume and turnaround numbers,
their screening answers, and their all-in monthly rate.
Screening Questions
1. Walk me through your highest-volume month. How many finished videos did you
personally deliver, and what was your average turnaround?
Strong answer: specific numbers, a described workflow, and a clear split between new
edits and variations.
Warning signs: "a lot" with no number, team output counted as their own, no
turnaround figure.
2. Pick one ad from your portfolio. What was the hook, and why did you cut it that way?
Strong answer: explains the opening seconds as a deliberate choice, mentions
alternate hooks that were tested, and knows how the ad performed.
Warning signs: talks only about effects and transitions, cannot explain why, never saw
performance results.
3. Tell me about the last revision notes you disagreed with. What did you do?
Strong answer: made the change, raised their view once and briefly, and moved on.
Warning signs: argued, delayed the delivery, or describes the client as not
understanding good work.
4. Which AI tools do you use in your editing today, and for which tasks?
Strong answer: names specific tools tied to specific tasks, and says where they do not
trust the output.

Warning signs: none in use, or buzzwords with no task attached.
5. Show me one video you edited that went viral and one that converted. What did you
do in the edit that caused each result?
Strong answer: names specific edit decisions, cites numbers (views, watch time, click-
through, sales), and treats reach and conversion as two different goals that need
different choices.
Warning signs: credits luck or the creator, has no numbers, treats views and sales as
the same thing, or claims they can guarantee a viral video.
