The European Correspondent is looking for a…

journalist
fellow
(8
days/month,
for
3
months)
The European Correspondent is a non-profit European media organisation. We bring Europe’s most relevant stories to around 80,000 citizens from all over the continent to build a European public discourse. Founded in 2022, we are looking for passionate journalists to join our team. We're reader-first, value original thinking, sharp storytelling, and the courage to challenge assumptions.
About The Role
As our video journalist, you’ll turn the most important EU and European stories into engaging, accessible vertical videos for social media. You’ll be part of a Europe-wide editorial team and help shape how we tell Europe's stories that matter — in a format built for the next generation of news.
During the three-month fellowship, you will bring your own ideas to life in video format, tell newsletter stories through video, and develop your own visual style for TEC.
The contract may be extended following the fellowship.
What you'll be doing
- Create short, vertical videos (primarily for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) that explain EU and European developments in a clear and creative way.
- Pitch and develop video formats that match our tone: informative, smart, and engaging – never dry or condescending.
- Work closely with editors and correspondents to turn ongoing reporting into compelling visual stories.
- Film, edit, and produce 2-3 videos per week, from scripting and narration to basic animation or on-screen text.
- Spot opportunities to respond quickly to trending topics with timely, relevant explainer content.
- Help build a recognisable, trustworthy video identity for The European Correspondent.
What We’re Looking For
- You have strong storytelling instincts and experience creating engaging video content, ideally for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts.
- You understand the EU and European affairs well – and have a curiosity and drive to learn fast.
- You're comfortable in both on-camera and behind-the-scenes roles.
- You know how to explain complex topics in a clear, creative, and visually engaging way.
- You're naturally curious about what connects and divides people across Europe.
- You have excellent English skills; additional European languages are a plus.
- You have a collaborative mindset – we’re building something together.
- You take ownership of your work and thrive when given responsibility – we’re looking for people who want to help shape our journalism and organisation.
- You're a registered freelancer in a European Union country.
- Bonus points if you’re based in Brussels and can film there.
What we offer
- Payment range: €840-€1260 based on your geographic location.
- Three-month contract with the option to extend to July 2027.
- Flexible, remote-first work culture based on trust and outcomes.
- A say in shaping an independent media start-up from the ground up.
- Significant potential to grow with the organisation as we expand fast.
- Access to a growing European network of journalists and content creators.
- A mission-driven team that values openness and experimentation.
- Starting date: 1 July 2026.
Does this sound interesting to you? Apply here, we would love to hear from you. We review applications on a rolling basis, usually within two weeks from publication (20.05.26).
Diversity makes us stronger. We appreciate diverse attitudes, cultures, and identities and encourage everyone to apply. Looking at problems from different perspectives helps us to get better every day.
