Brooks Law

Is this job info correct?

Job Type: Full-time, independent contractor

Location: Fully remote — open to candidates located outside the United States

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time

Compensation: Set individually based on experience and language ability, paid in USD. Discussed early in the interview process.

ABOUT US

Brooks Law Firm is one of the fastest-growing law firms in Massachusetts and has been making a major impact on the immigrant community since our founding in 2013. We proudly serve the Brazilian, Haitian, and Hispanic communities, and we have earned recognition including awards from Senator Elizabeth Warren and a place among Law Firm 500’s fastest-growing firms for two consecutive years.

We are a technology-forward firm that has built a fully remote, globally distributed support team. If you are an experienced immigration professional who wants to put your skills to work helping immigrant families achieve their American Dream — from anywhere in the world — we want to meet you.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced virtual immigration paralegal with strong USCIS family-based experience and some EOIR experience to join our team as a long-term contractor. This is a fully remote position based outside the United States, working U.S. Eastern business hours alongside our attorneys and stateside staff.

You will independently manage a busy family-based caseload from start to finish — preparing accurate filings, keeping deadlines airtight, and communicating with clients in their own language. You will work directly with attorneys on adjustment of status, marriage-based petitions, waivers, removal of conditions, naturalization, and basic immigration court filings.

Fluency in Haitian Creole and/or Brazilian Portuguese is required — fluency in both is an extreme plus. Our Haitian Creole- and Portuguese-speaking clients are at the center of this role, and the ability to build trust with them directly is what makes this position work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and review USCIS family-based immigration forms, including I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131, I-864, I-601, I-601A, I-751, N-400, and related applications
  • Assist with EOIR filings, including motions, hearing notices, supporting documents, court packets, change of address forms, and basic case updates
  • Draft client declarations, cover letters, affidavits, indexes, and supporting documentation packets
  • Communicate with clients in Haitian Creole and/or Portuguese to collect documents, confirm eligibility information, and provide case updates
  • Review civil documents, financial records, immigration history, criminal history, prior filings, and other evidence for consistency and completeness
  • Organize and maintain digital case files, deadlines, USCIS receipts, biometrics notices, RFEs, interview notices, approvals, EOIR hearing dates, court filings, and correspondence
  • Prepare responses to Requests for Evidence and Notices of Intent to Deny under attorney supervision
  • Assist with preparation for USCIS interviews and EOIR hearings, including gathering evidence and organizing exhibits
  • Coordinate filings, mailings, translations, signatures, and final quality control before submission
  • Track case progress and follow up with USCIS, EOIR, and clients as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive client information with professionalism and care

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Prior experience with USCIS family-based immigration cases (required)
  • Some EOIR experience (required)
  • Fluency in Haitian Creole and/or Brazilian Portuguese (required); fluency in both is an extreme plus
  • Professional written and spoken English
  • Strong knowledge of adjustment of status, consular processing, marriage-based petitions, waivers, removal of conditions, citizenship, and related family immigration matters
  • Familiarity with immigration court procedures, hearing notices, master calendar hearings, motions, and basic EOIR filings
  • Ability to prepare accurate forms and supporting evidence with close attention to detail
  • Exceptional writing, organizational, and client communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced, fully remote environment
  • Experience with immigration case management software preferred
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, empathy, and cultural sensitivity

REMOTE WORK REQUIREMENTS

  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a backup connection or plan
  • Personal computer capable of handling video calls, large PDFs, and cloud-based case management software
  • Quiet, private, professional workspace suitable for confidential client calls
  • Headset with a clear microphone and a working webcam
  • Ability to work consistently during U.S. Eastern business hours
  • Willingness to sign a confidentiality and data security agreement covering the handling of sensitive client information

WHY JOIN BROOKS LAW FIRM

  • Long-term, stable engagement with a growing firm — not project-based or short-term work
  • Direct collaboration with and mentorship from U.S. immigration attorneys
  • Meaningful work with a direct, visible impact on immigrant families
  • A firm that invests in technology and gives its team modern tools to work efficiently
  • Opportunities for growth and expanded responsibility as the firm grows

HOW TO APPLY

Apply through this posting with your resume in English. In your application, please tell us: (1) which languages you speak and at what level, (2) your years of hands-on USCIS family-based experience and the forms you have prepared most often, (3) your EOIR experience, and (4) your country of residence and time zone.
