College Board – AP & I

Role Type: This is a full-time position

About the Team

The Advanced Placement team supports College Board in serving more than seven million students a year as they prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success — specifically through the Advanced Placement (AP) Program. With more than 40 courses in a variety of subject areas, we are committed to promoting innovation, equity, and excellence for generations of students.

The AP Design team is a small in-house team focused on delivering high-impact, brand-aligned creative solutions. Partnering closely with internal stakeholders, we translate business goals into functional user-centered design across print and digital channels. Our team combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency at every stage of the creative process.

About the Opportunity

As a Visual Designer, you have a love for design and an attention to detail in everything you touch. You’re interested in learning more about the craft of design, trying new things, and are open to working on any type of project. We’re looking for someone who can work independently, communicate regularly with autonomy over their projects, and support our design goals. You are comfortable creating and editing design files across many channels – print, digital, presentations, email, marketing, and video. You seek finesse in all projects, taking pride in your work ethic and delivery of excellent creative assets. If you are adaptable, service-oriented, and dedicated to being an advocate for our audiences through great design, then we want to work with you.

In this role, you will:

Conceptualize and Design (80%)

  • Develop and deliver consistent and high-quality design solutions for organizational campaigns and initiatives that are aligned to brand standards – this may include print, digital, email, products, and event graphics.
  • Work on an array of PowerPoint presentations for a variety of internal stakeholders.
  • Implement established best practices in marketing, including information design, social media, and other emerging strategies.
  • Manage all phases of an assignment from concept through completion, including design development and digital file preparation.
  • Maintain and organize design files, templates, and shared assets to support team efficiency.
  • Ensure accessibility standards are incorporated across all materials.
  • Support vendor coordination and production processes, including print specifications and quality control reviews.
  • Contribute to workflow improvements that help refine internal creative processes to increase output quality.

Communicate, Collaborate, and Adapt (20%)

  • Communicate with all team members to ensure timely delivery of design artifacts.
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams, while navigating and adjusting to shifting priorities.
  • Build trust and strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Clearly articulate design ideas and rationale, present work confidently to stakeholders, and actively listen and incorporate feedback

About You

  • A portfolio of your work included in your application.
  • A BFA in graphic design, along with a minimum of 4–6 years of hands-on experience in design and production.
  • An understanding of visual design systems, hierarchy, typography, aesthetics, illustration, iconography, photography, data visualization, interaction, and composition.
  • An appetite for problem solving, while thriving in fast-paced environments.
  • Sharp design sensibilities and keen attention to detail, with experience crafting custom design specifications.
  • Openness to take on any project, no matter size or medium, with the ability to jump from one project to another, based on priorities and workload.
  • Affinity for problem solving and being a team player.
  • High understanding of industry standard design tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Figma.
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including advanced-level skills using PowerPoint, designing templates, master slides, and more. Experience working with Adobe After Effects, in animated media, or motion graphics a bonus, but not required.
  • The ability to travel 3–6 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business.

All roles at College Board require:

  • A passion for expanding educational and career opportunities and mission-driven work
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologies, with a willingness to experiment with and adopt new AI-driven solutions and comfort with learning and applying new digital tools independently and proactively.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, written and verbal
  • A learner's mindset and a commitment to growth: welcoming diverse perspectives, giving and receiving timely, respectful feedback, and continuously improving through iterative learning and user input.
  • A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.
  • A collaborative and empathetic approach: working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to a culture of shared success
  • Authorization to work in the United States

About Our Process

  • Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. This role is expected to accept applications for a minimum of 5 business days.
  • While the hiring process may vary, it generally includes: resume and application submission, recruiter phone/video screen, hiring manager interview, performance exercise such as live coding, a panel interview, a conversation with leadership and reference checks.
