We are sick of being told that all we can do is recycle or protest, while the adults hold the keys to the real solutions. That’s bullshit.
Around the world, there are young people building, leading and innovating kick-ass, concrete solutions to climate change - solutions with real impact. It’s high time we give them the spotlight and, most importantly, join.
We are CRUX, a non-profit run by young volunteers, building a new kind of a climate narrative around real-life stories that celebrate the agency of young people. We have filmed with inspiring young people across Southern and Eastern Africa, and now, we are creating a global movement that connects young people with concrete “first steps” toward their own impact around those stories.
Working on this project, we have gone from three passionate friends to more than 20 dedicated volunteers worldwide. Now, we want you to join us. As this generation, it is high time we tell our own story - a story where we are not done yet.
To build this movement to its fullest potential, we are looking to add the following people to our team:
- Web designer, helping us create a platform for connecting young people to concrete solutions in their area. More than just stories, we want to match our audiences with concrete, grassroots projects that they are invited to join.
- Web developer, helping us bring to life that platform. We have a team working on collecting a global database of concrete solutions for others to join, and now, we need to build the interface to connect people with them.
- Social media lead, Coordinate a team of content creators, strategize content types, evaluate analytics, and shape the voice of this movement.
- Grant specialist, helping us reach the resources needed to scale the project’s impact. By researching and applying for various funding opportunities, your work will be the main reason any of this will be possible.
- Partnership Coordinator, helping us spread our impact together with NGOs across Europe and Africa through partnerships ranging from media collaborations to events and school visiting programs. We're looking for people who can ideate new forms of collaboration, expand our network, and ultimately execute those programs.
- Solution Database Researcher, helping us connect audiences with tangible solutions they can join. We are building a global database of concrete youth-led climate solutions so that each person who sees the film can find something local to them that they can join - but first, we need to find those solutions.
At the core of this movement will be a feature-length film on the stories of young changemakers from Eastern and Southern Africa, and production team is looking for the following reinforcement:
- Distribution lead, helping us reach people through traditional film pathways. Film festivals, distributors, contracts, broadcast, theatrical release - we need someone with industry experience to take these stories to places.
- Trailer editor, helping create the trailer and other promotional material (e.g., teasers) from the film's footage. This involves both creative freedom and real responsibility when it comes to making sure the film reaches broad audiences before and after its release.
- Soundscape editor, helping create the environmental and atmospheric layers for the film's sound production. Your work will be crucial in creating an immersive sonic world for this feature-length film, establishing place, emotion and continuity across the protagonists' stories.
- Dialogue editor and mixer, helping prepare, clean and balance the project's dialogue during post-production. Your work will be crucial in creating a polished final soundtrack and ensuring that the performances remain emotionally and narratively effective.
- Assistant editor, helping with the general editing across post-production. You will be joining a team of four editors to assist with rough cuts, pacing, visuals and more - ultimately, shaping what this film becomes and how to best touch people through these stories.
- Translators, helping us accurately translate and navigate the footage that contains speech in languages local to the countries we filmed in. At the moment, we need support translating Shona, Chisewa, Luganda, Lango and Swahili.
General guidelines for all roles include:
- WHAT - We are looking for people excited to build a global, youth-led climate campaign from the bottom up by remotely volunteering their expertise and around 10 to 20 hours per week of their time.
- WHEN - As soon as possible, and for as long as the work brings you meaning. To begin with, we hope you can commit to working on this until the end of the year.
- WHO - We are looking for passionate young people eager to show what they can do and have a genuine impact. All nationalities and backgrounds are welcome; work is primarily remote.
- WHY - Because we believe the narrative around climate change is flawed. And we know stories of young people refusing to give up are a way to change that.
And being part of our team means:
- Gaining hands-on experience building something major from the ground up
- Joining passionate, international team who has your back
- Support and mentoring from people with vastly different backgrounds
- Trust and responsibility over the sector you will work on, with space to leave your handprint and have ownership over the results
- Work experience with a registered non-profit and a great letter of recommendation
- Opportunity to build something big and learn so much in the process!
