What We Need
This project focuses on developing students’ analytical thinking and persuasive writing skills through structured argumentative writing practice. By engaging with diverse topics, students learn to construct clear arguments, evaluate evidence, and express opinions effectively in both written and spoken form.
What We Have
Volunteers will be provided with a comprehensive curriculum and detailed lesson plans to guide each class.
Why this is important
Argumentative writing is one of the most challenging genres for students. This project helps them strengthen critical thinking, sharpen writing skills, and learn to express opinions clearly and persuasively.

What We Do
Books & Beyond Reading Club is a Hong Kong-based organization providing free innovative English learning programs for students of lesser means. By focusing on social-emotional learning, we nurture reading, writing & listening skills as well as self-identity and self-confidence, providing our students with the tools to succeed in and out of the classroom.
What We Need
- Conduct Zoom sessions on Secondary School English argumentative writing (‘My Opinion Counts’) and give detailed feedback to students' writing
- Class Schedule: SATURDAY morning 10:00 am-11:00 am
- Commit at least 12 out of 14 Zoom classes (Nov 14, 2026 - April 17, 2027)
- Before the class: Review the lesson plan, assign writing homework, and provide corrections on students’ drafts via email
- During the class: Engage with a story, article, or video related to the topic, share opinions, and guide discussion
- Class size: 12 students (aged 16)
