JOB SUMMARY You will design, build, and support applications that drive risk analysis and decision-making. In this role, you develop full-stack solutions using Python and React, deployed on Azure. Your work turns business needs into reliable, production-ready systems. You also help improve system reliability, shape technical direction, and support the growth of others on the team. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Build and maintain scalable web applications using Python frameworks such as Django and front-end tools like React Design and develop APIs and backend services that support data-driven use cases Deploy and manage applications on Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Functions, Containers, Storage, SQL, and Databricks Implement monitoring, logging, and tracing using tools such as Azure Monitor and Application Insights Improve application performance, reliability, and security across the stack Lead incident response efforts and perform root cause analysis to resolve issues and prevent recurrence Automate build, test, and deployment pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Mentor engineers and contribute to consistent engineering practices POSITION SPECIFICATIONS Experience: 5+ years of professional software development with Python Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience Back-end: Hands-on experience building applications with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI Front-end: Experience building user interfaces using JavaScript, including React Data: Experience writing SQL queries and performing data analysis tasks Cloud / Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including App Service, Functions, Containers, and Storage DevOps: Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps Tools: Experience using GitHub, VS Code, and modern development environments Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document decisions and collaborate across teams NICE TO HAVE Data: Experience with Azure Databricks, including PySpark, Delta Lake, and data workflows Domain: Knowledge of risk management or financial services Observability: Familiarity with monitoring and tracing practices such as OpenTelemetry AI: Experience using AI tools in the development process #LI-JM1 SMBC’s employees participate in a Hybrid workforce model that provides employees with an opportunity to work from home, as well as, from an SMBC office.
