The Waste Management Specialist (Incinerator Operations) is responsible for managing all aspects of waste handling and segregation, ensuring compliance with MARPOL, SOLAS, and international waste management regulations. This role focuses on the safe and efficient operation of the yacht’s Recycling Center and the incinerator system, ensuring that all garbage, including hazardous waste, is disposed of correctly and safely. The Waste Management Specialist ensures the yacht maintains high cleanliness standards and follows environmental regulations.
People Management:
- Ability to lead waste management operations and collaborate with various departments to ensure smooth functioning and compliance with protocols.

- Contribute indirectly to guest experience by maintaining a pristine, waste-free environment onboard, ensuring environmental compliance that enhances the yacht’s sustainability.

Experience
· Experience in waste management, particularly in maritime settings or ultra-luxury yachts, with knowledge of garbage segregation, hazardous waste disposal, and incinerator operation.
· Familiarity with MARPOL, SOLAS, and other international maritime regulations regarding waste management.
· Practical experience with the operation of waste management systems, incinerators, and recycling centers.
Willingness to travel internationally and work on an ultra-luxury yacht for extended periods, adapting to various locations and climates.
Outcomes
Garbage Management & Segregation
· Control and manage the waste disposal process, ensuring the correct segregation of garbage and hazardous waste in compliance with MARPOL and other international standards.
· Oversee the Recycling Center, ensuring it remains clean, organized, and compliant with waste management protocols.
Incinerator and Waste Treatment
· Operate and manage the incinerator, ensuring the proper handling and disposal of waste materials, including filling and emptying garbage silos and managing the dryer plan.
· Monitor and report abnormalities in the incinerator operation to the engine control room.
· Manage and offload incinerator ashes safely, following operational guidelines.
Regulatory Compliance
· Ensure all waste management activities comply with MARPOL regulations, SOLAS, Global HESS (Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security), and relevant safety rules.
· Contribute to the correct implementation of the Garbage Management Plan (GMP), working closely with the Deputy Captain or Recycling Operations Officer.
Record-Keeping & Documentation
· Maintain accurate logs of all waste management activities, ensuring proper documentation of waste disposal, incineration, and other related tasks.
· Ensure safe garbage storage and manage storage areas to meet safety standards and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Maintenance
· Work closely with the Engine Department to maintain and repair equipment related to waste management systems.
· Support the food waste measurement process and manage the pulper system in the Recycling Center to process food waste efficiently.
Health & Safety
· Maintain a clean and safe Recycling Center, adhering to safety protocols and ensuring all waste is managed in a manner that prevents contamination or hazards.
· Follow Health and Safety guidelines and report any observed violations or potential risks to the Head of Department, ensuring the safety of all crew and guests.
Waste Offloading
· Coordinate with the Deputy Captain or Recycling Operations Officer to ensure correct offloading of waste materials in designated ports, following all required guidelines and instructions.
· Manage the safe and compliant disposal of waste materials in accordance with yacht protocols and environmental standards.
Leadership:
Lead waste management operations effectively, ensuring high standards of compliance and safety.

Understand the importance of environmental responsibility in contributing to the overall guest experience and the yacht's reputation.
