Web Research Specialist — 6-week paid contract, fully remote

What you'll do

You'll build the research puzzles that frontier AI models try — and often fail — to crack. Each task is an original, real-sounding question solvable only by chaining 4–6 independent clues across the open web, each backed by an exact quote and a live source. Your work is tested against top models and reviewed for rigor — only airtight tasks count. No coding. ~4 hours per task.

A task, start to finish

• Write a 60–120 word prompt that reads like a genuine question — your own phrasing, no copied content, no search hints.
• Find 4–6 clues across reputable open English sources (no Wikipedia, no paywalls) — each with a direct quote, URL, and verification date.
• Lock in one definitive answer and show why the near-misses don't fit.
• Map plausible wrong answers and which clue kills each; log your search path.
• Verify everything logged out; sharpen tasks models solve too easily.

You're a fit if you

• Have 3+ years of research experience and a Master's degree.
• Live in search operators, reverse lookups, and institutional catalogues.
• Know archives: libraries, museums, court/legislative records, registers, specialized databases, Wayback Machine, preprint servers.
• Tell primary from secondary, original from republished, stated fact from implied.
• Cite verbatim from pages, PDFs, scans, and tables — typos included.
• Design clue chains: searchable alone, pinpointing one answer together.
• Write clean, fluent English.
• Fact-check every AI-generated claim against the actual source.

Nice to have

• Deep expertise in history, science/tech, sports, music, politics, geography, film, or TV.
• OSINT or cataloguing experience; prior benchmark, exam, or puzzle work.
