Job Title: Wiring Harness Design Release Engineer Job Description The Wiring Harness Design Release Engineer designs, packages, and releases vehicle wiring harnesses while ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and high quality. This role collaborates closely with designers, manufacturing teams, and customer engineering groups to integrate wiring harnesses into vehicles using established design guidelines. The engineer also supports vehicle build events, manages engineering changes, and drives continuous improvement through cost reduction and warranty analysis. Responsibilities Collaborate with designers to package wiring harnesses in vehicles in accordance with Stellantis design guidelines. Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to wiring harness designs to ensure efficient and reliable production. Support vehicle build events at customer sites, providing on-site engineering support and resolving wiring harness issues. Specify, document, and coordinate engineering changes related to wiring harness designs. Issue documentation to authorize design changes and ensure proper tracking of associated costs. Support cost reduction initiatives by identifying and implementing design improvements and material or process optimizations. Review warranty claims related to wiring harnesses to identify root causes and recommend design improvements. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and customer engineering, to address design issues and implement solutions. Use logical, structured problem-solving methods to resolve design and integration issues in a timely manner. Communicate design status, issues, and changes clearly and professionally to internal teams and customer stakeholders. Coordinate with manufacturing sites, including facilities in Mexico, to ensure alignment between design intent and production capabilities. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 years of experience in the automotive industry as a Wiring Harness Design Release Engineer or in a closely related wiring harness role. Hands-on experience with wiring harness design and release in an automotive environment. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering. Strong electrical design engineering experience with an understanding of wiring systems and harness architecture. Proven experience in design release processes, including managing and documenting engineering changes. Ability to apply logical thinking and structured problem-solving to resolve complex design issues. Willingness and ability to travel to manufacturing sites in Mexico and to customer locations as required. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with internal teams and customer personnel. Open-minded and adaptable personality suited to working with dynamic customer requirements and changing priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting vehicle build events and providing on-site engineering support at customer facilities. Familiarity with Stellantis wiring harness design guidelines or similar OEM design standards. Experience incorporating Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles into wiring harness design. Experience in cost reduction initiatives, including identifying design, material, or process changes to reduce overall cost. Experience reviewing warranty data and translating findings into actionable design improvements. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams. Strong organizational skills for tracking design changes, documentation, and cost impacts. Work Environment The Wiring Harness Design Release Engineer works in a blended environment that includes customer engineering sites, manufacturing facilities, and remote work as needed. The role involves regular collaboration with designers, manufacturing engineers, and customer teams, often in fast-paced and dynamic project settings. Travel is required to manufacturing sites in Mexico and to customer locations for build events, reviews, and issue resolution. Work typically takes place in professional office and engineering environments, with occasional time spent on the shop floor or in vehicle build areas where appropriate safety practices and attire are expected. Standard business hours generally apply, with flexibility required during key build events or critical project milestones. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Troy, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $62.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
