Workday Payroll/HCM Consultant

Overview

The Squires Group is seeking a Workday Payroll/HCM Consultant to support a large-scale Workday implementation within a highly complex public-sector environment. This engagement will support a major university system as it transitions from a heavily customized PeopleSoft environment to Workday.

This is a hands-on consulting opportunity for a Workday professional with strong Payroll and Core HCM expertise who enjoys working through complex requirements, configuring solutions, and collaborating with clients and implementation teams. The selected consultant will work closely with Workday leadership and functional teams to support solution design, tenant configuration, testing, documentation, and issue resolution throughout the implementation.

The role will provide exposure to a complex Workday environment and the opportunity to contribute directly to key implementation deliverables, including tenant build, user stories, configuration workbooks, business process documentation, and defect resolution.

The position is remote, with limited travel to the client site in New York.

Per contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card Holders and be able to pass the client’s background check.

Responsibilities

• Support the design, solutioning, configuration, and implementation of Workday Payroll and Core HCM, with support for Compensation as needed.
• Work closely with the Payroll/HCM Lead and implementation team to translate business requirements into Workday solutions.
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, and working sessions that drive requirements, design, and configuration decisions.
• Support tenant build and configuration activities within Workday.
• Develop and maintain user stories and related implementation documentation.
• Identify, document, and help resolve configuration and testing defects.
• Maintain and update design documents, decision documents, and RAID items as the implementation progresses.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of Configuration Workbooks and Business Process Workbooks.
• Support updates to Gap Definition Documents based on evolving requirements and solution decisions.
• Collaborate with functional and technical teams to identify downstream impacts and integration touchpoints related to Payroll and HCM.
• Assist with testing activities, issue analysis, and defect resolution.
• Help identify opportunities to improve processes and leverage Workday functionality to reduce manual or highly customized legacy processes.
• Provide knowledge transfer and support to client stakeholders and project team members as needed.

Qualifications

• Active Workday Payroll Certification
• Active Workday Core HCM Certification
• Hands-on experience supporting Workday Payroll and HCM implementations
• Experience with Workday configuration, business processes, and implementation documentation
• Experience participating in a full-cycle Workday implementation preferred
• Strong understanding of Payroll and Core HCM business processes
• Ability to work effectively with both functional and technical project team members
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent client-facing communication skills and the ability to participate in discussions that lead to clear requirements and decisions
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliverables within a complex implementation environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Workday Compensation Certification
• Experience supporting a PeopleSoft-to-Workday implementation
• Experience in Higher Education, State Government, or other SLED environments
• Experience working with complex, multi-entity or multi-organization structures
• Experience with Workday Payroll configuration in a large or highly customized environment
• Experience developing or maintaining Workday configuration and business process documentation
• Experience with Workday testing, defect management, and implementation deliverables
