Look no further. 2027 Future Focus Internship Program Start Dates: Monday, May 17th or Monday, May 24th, 2027 2027 Future Focus Internship Program End Date: Friday, August 6th, 2027 Position Summary Working with experienced departmental staff conducts actuarial studies for auto, property and commercial lines of business. Presents findings and proposals to management. Supports the work of actuarial analysts while learning the actuarial analyst job function. The Actuarial Intern works alongside experienced actuarial professionals on a variety of projects designed to provide broad exposure to the actuarial profession and its role within the insurance industry. The intern gains hands-on experience across key areas of Property & Casualty actuarial practice, including pricing, reserving, and modeling, while applying analytical and technical skills to real-world business challenges. The internship also provides opportunities to learn how actuarial analysis supports business decisions, communicate findings to analysts and management, and gain exposure to different actuarial career paths within ERIE, including an introduction to our Life Actuarial department. Applications are accepted from college students currently enrolled at an accredited college or university to pursue a four-year degree or to complete a master's degree program full-time A four-year degree student should be completing sophomore, junior, or senior year (graduating in spring 2027 through spring 2029) A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required to be considered for this internship About the Internship: The internship includes orientation to the company and the insurance industry through: A variety of challenging assignments in a stimulating work environment A personal mentor A variety of educational, social and community service events with other interns Social events and other networking activities with senior leaders including the CEO Relocation assistance may be available to those who qualify We have multiple talent programs and initiatives focused on attracting underrepresented students for internships and other job opportunities here at Erie Insurance. Duties and Responsibilities Works with experienced departmental staff to learn actuarial techniques, data sources, and spreadsheets to conduct reviews of rating factors. Assists in conducting detailed analysis of The ERIE's insurance programs, profitability, rating factors, reserve studies, dynamic financial analysis, and experience exhibits. Typical projects have included: deductible studies, trend and forecasts of average paid losses and frequencies, effect of large losses on rate indications, and competitive analysis. Creates exhibits, reports, and charts for actuarial and reserve studies, state insurance department filings, and rate recommendations. Determines appropriate presentation format. Develops a basic knowledge of ratemaking procedures used by The ERIE, competitors, and rate bureaus. Writes programs in SAS and Visual Basic to extract data to spreadsheet format. Reviews data for reasonableness and accuracy. Gathers ERIE and Industry information in response to requests. Presents rate, reserve and other analysis to management and communicates analysis impacts to other departments as required. Pursuit of bachelor's degree with completion of sophomore year majoring in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics or related field required. Additional Experience Minimum 3.0 GPA required. Candidates in their final year of undergraduate study, or pursuing graduate studies are also eligible. Proficiency in probability and statistics as demonstrated by passing the first actuarial exam preferred. Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and data base software preferred Physical Requirements Lifting/Moving 0-20 lbs; Occasional (<20%) Lifting/Moving 20-50 lbs; Rarely Ability to move over 50 lbs using lifting aide equipment; Rarely Driving; Rarely Pushing/Pulling/moving objects, equipment with wheels; Occasional (<20%) Manual Keying/Data Entry/inputting information/computer use; Often (20-50%) Climbing/accessing heights; Rarely Nearest Major Market: Erie
