What does this team do?
The Sports Business Group is a market-leading, passionate team of specialist advisors working exclusively on sports projects. We bring commercial, financial, strategic and business knowledge to solve the key challenges facing sports’ leading organisations.
The Sports Business Group has advised on projects involving 40+ different sports and worked in 40 countries across the globe. Working in the Group provides a unique opportunity to see and influence the ways in which sport impacts wider society across our two main service offerings - M&A and advisory. In M&A we identify, facilitate and execute M&A deals that propel the global sports industry forward, and in Advisory, we equip our clients with world class knowledge and insights to seize opportunities within a rapidly evolving industry.
The Sports Business group provides leading global sports organisations, investors, governments and sport adjacent properties with the knowledge and insight that allows them to maximise the impact of major global sports transactions, drive sustainable growth and enact transformational growth - ultimately shaping the future of sport.
What skills and academic qualifications do I need?
You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in any degree discipline and have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.
What kind of work will I do?
You will work with a range of public and private sector clients across both our M&A market offering and our Advisory market offering. Our recent clients have included FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile), who we have helped develop and implement financial regulations across Formula One and Formula E, the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association), who we have helped ‘open up tennis’ through digital transformation, and the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) who we advised on securing private investment for all eight teams in The Hundred.
You will grow your understanding of the sports industry through a mixture of on-the-job learning and knowledge sharing sessions, enabling you to advise clients, speak at industry events and contribute to flagship publications including the Annual Review of Football Finance, the Deloitte Football Money League and the Future of Sport, as well as insight pieces relating to topics such as transfer spending and trends in the sports industry. These pieces, along with our client work, are valued highly across the industry and are often the subject of media coverage.
Where will I work?
At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.
All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.
How will I develop?
During your first few weeks with the firm, you will receive training that has been designed to cover the core components of the work the team delivers for clients. Our ambition is to support our people to achieve their personal and professional goals by providing access to a wide range of quality learning materials and opportunities.
As a new member of the team, you are empowered to become part of a client project and begin understanding and solving complex problems. We will provide support and ongoing training to allow you to learn how to handle confidential information, deliver quality work, and help build and maintain relationships with key clients.
