Employment Type: Casual, up to 38 hours . Temporary roles are available to visa holders, with contracts issued in accordance with visa conditions. Visa holders will be considered where no suitable Australian citizen or permanent resident is identified.

Remuneration: $72.62 + 12% Superannuation + Salary Packaging

Join Mental Health Services as an After Hours Nurse Unit Manager and provide leadership, clinical oversight and operational support during evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays, helping ensure consumers receive safe, responsive and recovery-oriented care when they need it most.

  • Lead and support multidisciplinary teams across inpatient and community mental health settings to achieve positive consumer outcomes.
  • Provide clinical leadership and service coordination, facilitating timely decision-making and continuity of care during after-hours periods.
  • Foster a safe, supportive and recovery-focused environment for consumers, carers and staff.
  • Develop and strengthen your leadership capabilities within a large and diverse Mental Health Service, working collaboratively with managers, clinicians and key stakeholders.

We are seeking a motivated and confident mental health nursing leader who thrives in a dynamic after-hours environment. You will bring strong operational and clinical leadership capabilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality,patient-centred care while supporting staff and service performance across Mental Health Services.

  • Demonstrated experience in a Nurse Unit Manager, Team Manager, or Acting After Hours Nurse Unit Manager leadership role.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to coordinate staffing resources and manage rostering requirements within a complex healthcare environment.
  • Experience participating in hospital-wide operations, patient flow initiatives, quality improvement activities, and clinical governance processes.
  • Understanding of key performance indicators, including Length of Stay (LOS), Discharge by Midday, bed occupancy, incident management, and restrictive practices

Selection Criteria

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience or a combination of study and experience deemed appropriate by SWSLHD.
  • Outline the skills, knowledge and experience that make you a strong candidate for this role. Include examples of your experience leading staff, managing services, and delivering high-quality patient care.
  • Discuss how your leadership style, communication skills and experience will add value to South Western Sydney Local Health District. Include examples of collaboration, critical thinking, quality improvement, and managing workplace challenges.
