About the Role

PHNX Materials is seeking an entry-level Analytical Lab Technician to support our characterization lead and metals recovery R&D. You’ll own sample preparation and analysis for our lab: collecting and preparing solid and liquid samples, running XRF and ICP-OES/MS analyses, and performing wet bench chemistry, while keeping careful records of everything you do. This is a hands-on role ideal for a recent graduate who wants deep, daily exposure to modern analytical instrumentation.

What You’ll Do

• Collect, label, and prepare solid and liquid samples for analysis

• Analyze samples using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), including sample prep (pressing, fusion, or loose powder as appropriate)

• Prepare and run samples on ICP-OES/MS, including acid digestions, dilutions, and calibration standards

• Perform wet bench chemistry: digestions, leaching tests, titrations, filtration, and solution preparation

• Maintain detailed, accurate lab notebooks and enter data into our records system

• Keep lab spaces organized, maintain instruments, track consumables, and follow all safety protocols (PPE, chemical hygiene)

What We’re Looking For

• B.S. in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, environmental geochemistry or a related field (or equivalent hands-on lab experience)

• 0–2 years of laboratory experience

• Strong attention to detail and disciplined record-keeping habits

• Comfort working with acids and other lab chemicals with proper training and PPE. Safety first.

• Willingness to learn multiple instruments and techniques; we will train on XRF and ICP-OES/MS

Nice to Have

• Coursework or hands-on exposure to XRF, ICP-OES, or ICP-MS

• Data organization and analysis of characterization data

• Experience with acid digestion or metallurgical sample prep

• Interest in or familiarity with extractive metallurgy, or recycling processes

Physical Requirements

• Able to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a lab environment with appropriate PPE
