Show job description
  • Model the most advanced semiconductor devices being built today
  • Work directly with tier-1 manufacturers on their hardest technical challenges
  • Eindhoven, Netherlands (relocation available)

Our client is a fast-growing technology company developing a breakthrough tool for reconstructing the detailed 3D geometry of the most advanced next-generation semiconductor devices. As Application Engineer, Device Expert, you are the technical expert who understands customer semiconductor devices in detail. You work directly with tier-1 manufacturers to extract their technical requirements and translate them into accurate device models, taking the lead on device architecture discussions in every customer meeting and demo.

This role is highly visible. You will be in the room with tier-1 manufacturer engineering teams regularly, explaining complex device structures and defending your models against senior technical audiences. You will work closely with the Application Team Lead, data analysis engineers, and internal algorithm and software teams.

You will report to the Application Team Lead / Architect, work from the Eindhoven office, and travel to customer sites approximately quarterly.

Key responsibilities:

  • Model customer semiconductor devices by understanding their process flows, layer structures, and technical specifications in detail
  • Extract and translate customer technical requirements into modelling tasks through direct customer interaction
  • Develop and refine device models and data processing recipes for each demo, working closely with the Application Team Lead and data analysis engineers
  • Participate in customer meetings and demos, taking primary responsibility for device architecture discussions
  • Collaborate with algorithm and software teams to guide development of new modelling methods and faster recipe setup
  • Adapt rapidly to new process technologies, customer requirements, and evolving internal software

About you:

  • Master's degree or PhD in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering, with 3 or more years of experience at a tier-1 semiconductor manufacturer (Samsung, TSMC, Intel, Micron, SK Hynix) or a leading metrology supplier
  • Front-end-of-line (FEOL) device and process experience; back-end-only backgrounds are not a fit for this role
  • Hands-on experience building and refining 3D device models, using tools such as Coventor, SEMulator3D, or similar process or device modelling software
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor device architecture and manufacturing processes, including advanced DRAM, able to draw and explain advanced device structures from memory in detail
  • Experience with optical CD metrology recipe setup, inverse problems, or 4F² memory cell design an advantage
  • Strong Python programming capability with the ability to write clean, functional code under pressure
  • Thrives under time pressure with high visibility, comfortable explaining complex physics at varying technical levels
  • Fluent English for customer communication at all levels, with Korean and/or Mandarin Chinese highly regarded

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary package
  • Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • Learning and development budget to support your professional growth
  • Flexible working arrangements
