The Role

We are hiring curious, hands-on Applied AI Engineers to join our Product and Research team. You will turn ideas into working products from understanding a problem and researching possible approaches to building, evaluating, and improving the solution.

Our work includes AI teaching and learning assistants, conversational experiences, knowledge-processing pipelines, multimodal content workflows, and assessment tools. You will own assigned features while contributing across research, product decisions, development, and testing.

What You Will Do

• Understand the problem: Translate user and business needs into clear requirements, workflows, and measurable success criteria.
• Research and experiment: Investigate AI models, tools, technical documentation, and relevant papers. Test alternatives and recommend approaches based on evidence, quality, cost, and feasibility.
• Build working solutions: Develop prototypes, APIs, integrations, and AI features; take assigned components through testing, deployment, and improvement.
• Develop AI workflows: Work with model APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), structured outputs, and tool integrations to connect AI with relevant knowledge and actions.
• Shape learning experiences: Design and refine prompts, teaching flows, conversational behaviour, and context management for AI mentor and teach-back experiences.
• Process varied content: Build workflows that extract, structure, and validate information from documents, images, audio, and video, preserving links to source material.
• Measure and improve quality: Create repeatable evaluations, investigate incorrect or inconsistent outputs, and improve response time, reliability, and operating cost.
• Build responsibly: Apply appropriate testing, monitoring, access controls, and data protection. Review and verify AI-generated code.
• Collaborate clearly: Document decisions and experiments, demonstrate progress, review teammates’ work, and communicate blockers early.

Your core skills and experience include:

• Practical experience building an AI application, backend service, data pipeline, or comparable software project.
• Strong working knowledge of Python, including the ability to read, write, debug, and test code.
• Familiarity with APIs, JSON, SQL or other databases, Git, and application deployment.
• A working understanding of LLMs, prompting, context management, embeddings, retrieval, and common AI limitations.
• Ability to break a broad idea into manageable tasks and build a useful first version.
• Ability to compare technical approaches through experiments and explain the trade-offs.
• Experience using AI coding assistants while remaining accountable for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Clear written and verbal communication, with disciplined documentation and progress updates.
• Awareness of data privacy, prompt injection, access permissions, and secure credential handling.

Additional strengths we welcome:

Experience with conversational or voice AI, educational technology, multimodal processing, AI evaluation, frontend development, Docker, cloud platforms, or PyTorch/TensorFlow.

We welcome complementary strengths. You do not need experience with every listed technology, but you should demonstrate strong fundamentals, practical execution, and the ability to learn.
