Company Description

Styon is an early-stage startup building an AI-powered personal styling app for the U.S. market. Combining a digital wardrobe with an AI stylist, we help people discover their style, make the most of what they own, and shop thoughtfully. Join us to help shape a consumer AI product ahead of launch.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Applied AI Scientist with strong machine learning foundations and a proven ability to turn advanced AI techniques into practical, production-ready applications. You will work closely with product and engineering teams in the U.S. and China to develop and deploy solutions across computer vision, multimodal AI, recommendation systems, and LLM-powered applications.

This role requires end-to-end ownership, from problem definition and technical design to implementation, evaluation, and deployment, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with China-based engineers in Mandarin.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy AI solutions in computer vision, multimodal learning, recommendation systems, and LLM-powered applications.
  • Own projects end to end, including data preparation, model development, experimentation, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Build AI agents using language models, tool calling, APIs, and automated workflows.
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining code quality, testing, and reliability.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and optimize applications for quality, latency, scalability, and cost.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Fluency in spoken Mandarin Chinese for technical discussions and daily collaboration with engineering teams in China.
  • Strong machine learning and deep learning foundations, with expertise in computer vision, LLMs and multimodal AI, or recommendation systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently deliver technical projects, with clear ownership of implementation and outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools and AI agent development, including tool integration, workflow orchestration, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch or a comparable framework, with familiarity with Git, APIs, testing, and deployment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound technical judgment, and the ability to learn quickly and execute independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral training at a leading university or research institution.
  • Experience with virtual try-on (VTO), image generation, model fine-tuning, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
  • Experience deploying and maintaining AI applications or models in production.
  • Strong independent projects, open-source contributions, or relevant publications.
