As an Applied R&D Engineer, you will contribute to the development of innovative wood product solutions that are used in real buildings throughout North America. Working at the intersection of engineering, product development, manufacturing, and building science, you will help transform ideas into commercially viable products and applications. In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, scientists, and market analysts to solve complex building challenges. Your work will include product research and development, structural analysis, code evaluation and laboratory testing. Key Responsibilities Promote and actively contribute to a strong safety-first culture. Develop innovative building and product solutions using structural analysis, engineering principles, and mechanical testing. Apply building codes and design standards, including IBC, IRC, NDS, and ASCE standards, to support new product development and applications. Develop and evaluate technical concepts for code compliance, manufacturing feasibility, and field application. Plan, conduct, and oversee structural testing programs, including test design, execution, data analysis, and technical reporting. Interpret technical data and translate findings into actionable product development recommendations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance products from concept through commercialization. Support code approvals, technical documentation, and engineering guidance for new products. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Five or more years of engineering experience. Strong knowledge of North American building codes, structural design principles, product applications, and engineering analysis. Experience with wood design, engineered wood products, or building materials. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify meaningful product development opportunities and translate them into practical solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. What We Offer: Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $98,800-$148,200 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use.
