Assistant Principal – Lower Primary (English Immersion)

XPTeach is recruiting on behalf of Salesian International School, a Catholic school in Akabane, northern Tokyo, run by the Salesian Sisters' school corporation (Seibi Gakuen).

The school is seeking an experienced educator to join its leadership team as Assistant Principal of the International Class from April 2027. The International Class is a growing English-immersion programme, serving Years 1–2 in 2027 and expanding to Years 1–3 in 2028. You will provide academic and operational leadership for the programme, working closely with international and Japanese faculty to deliver innovative education while meeting Japanese Article 1 school standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee curriculum, PBL and STEAM implementation aligned with the Japanese national curriculum
• Conduct classroom observations and give constructive feedback
• Lead recruitment, hiring and onboarding of international faculty
• Plan and deliver professional development
• Manage timetables and staffing
• Act as a primary contact for International Class parents
• Support admissions and public relations activities
• Teach a small number of lessons (no homeroom responsibilities)
• Uphold the school's Catholic, Salesian educational mission

Requirements

• Master's degree in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership or a related field
• Valid teaching licence
• Minimum 8 years' teaching experience (home-country plus international experience highly preferred)
• Japanese language ability at JLPT N3 or above
• Native or near-native English proficiency

Preferred

• School administration or leadership experience
• JLPT N2 or above
• Knowledge of Japanese Article 1 schools and work experience in Japan
• Background in PBL, STEAM or inquiry-based learning

Package

• Salary from ¥9,000,000 per year, negotiable based on qualifications and experience
